A user shares his story about how he found a long-forgotten miniature from Warhammer 40,000 again. Now he is considering whether to build it or keep it as a small treasure – associated with many memories.
On Reddit, TheGrandCannoli recounts that while going through the boxes from his grandmother’s house, he found an old box. His grandmother had passed away last year, but he had only now taken a look through her things.
He came across an old box of Warhammer 40,000: an XV8 Crisis Suit from the Tau Empire (or Tau back then). He explains that he received the figure 18 years ago for Christmas:
Warhammer is considered an expensive hobby and since his family never had much money, he never built the figure: “I begged my mom to buy me Tau stuff, and she gave me this [figure] for Christmas. I never built it because I didn’t have the accessories and couldn’t afford to build an army.”
He felt bad for never having assembled the miniature. Now at 28, he has a job, already plays Warhammer with Tau and Necron armies, and is asking for advice on whether he should really open such an old pack and assemble the miniature.
In Warhammer 40,000, the 11th edition is already set to arrive on June 20, 2026:
“Build it as it was intended!”
While there are users who believe that something like this first still-packaged figure should be kept as a keepsake, more think that assembling it is the right choice. After all, that was the original intention behind the gift:
I tend to think: “Build it.” Your mother gave it to you to have fun with, to be part of something that matters to you and has given you many positive feelings.

Others generally note that there are no better models than those bought for you by family and friends after they learned more about your favorite faction.
Finding such a figure again after 18 years must be something else, something special – although the hesitation is understandable.
