In Valheim there are many different materials that you need for building weapons, armor, and tools. One of them is obsidian. We will show you how to find and mine it here.
Where can you find obsidian? You can find obsidian in the “Mountain” area. You recognize the location by its icy mountains and the snowy, frozen landscape. Visit the place and look out for special rock formations on the ground.
Obsidian can be found in large stone deposits. Look at the surrounding rocks and “inspect” them. As soon as you see these stones, the name “Obsidian deposit” will pop up at some point.
How can you mine obsidian? To mine obsidian, you only need an iron pickaxe. Use it and mine the material.
Unfortunately, there is a problem because in the icy area you will suffer frost damage and slowly lose your energy. If you do not have armor with frost resistance, you should brew a “Mead with Frost Resistance”. For this, you need:
- 10x Honey
- 5x Thistle
- 2x Bloodbag
- 1x Dandelion
Drink this before you venture into the dangerous area. Also interesting is that you can transport obsidian, unlike other metallic materials, through a portal.
What do you need obsidian for? With volcanic glass, you can craft many useful items. These include:
- Workbench upgrade to level 5
- Obsidian arrows
- Poison arrows
- Frost arrows
Does obsidian respawn after mining? No, if you have completely exploited a deposit, they do not respawn. Theoretically, you can clear your entire world of obsidian. However, since the world of Valheim is huge, it is rather unlikely that this will happen.
