Star Wars brings two characters together in a new story who could have met much earlier. The sequel films would probably have benefited from this.
Attention Spoiler: We reveal a crucial encounter between two characters in the novel “Star Wars: Legacy”.
A few days ago, the novel “Star Wars: Legacy” by Madeleine Roux was released. The story takes place between film episodes 8 (“The Last Jedi”) and 9 (“The Rise of Skywalker”). How the two films fare in our ranking, you can find out on MeinMMO.
After Rey has lost her master Luke, she is disoriented but finds support in Leia. Moreover, Rey’s lightsaber is broken and needs to be repaired. To do this, she travels to the planet Tython, where she searches through ancient writings in a Jedi temple.
And it is on this planet that an encounter finally occurs with none other than Anakin Skywalker.
Anakin has important advice
What does the meeting look like? At the time of the story, Anakin is of course dead, which is why Rey encounters not his physical form, but “only” his Force spirit.
The Jedi is frustrated that she cannot repair the lightsaber – which, by the way, used to belong to Anakin. Suddenly she sees a figure approaching her. Rey connects with the newcomer through the Force and learns about his past. She realizes: Anakin Skywalker is standing in front of her.
The former Jedi also has some important advice for Rey. He knows what it is like to grow up in the desert and lead a hard life. He always wanted to manage everything alone, which was his weakness.
“Evil seeks the weak,” he explains to Rey. The Force works differently in everyone, and throughout his life he tried to control it. As we know, Anakin fell to the dark side before returning to the light. What he shares with Rey is an important thought that accompanies her from then on and makes her more vigilant.
His words inspire confidence but also caution when it comes to the Force. Afterwards, his spirit disappears again.
Why wasn’t Anakin in the sequels?
In light of the novel, the question arises as to why such an encounter never took place in the sequels. After all, Anakin’s Force spirit appeared in an earlier film, namely in Episode 6 (in current versions even with Hayden Christensen as Anakin).
It would have made perfect sense to have his Force spirit appear in Episode 7. Not only would that fit well in conjunction with Rey. Kylo Ren would also be a prime candidate for a chat with Anakin, after all, he is a big admirer of Darth Vader and speaks to his helmet.
Anakin’s Force spirit might have been able to bring him to reason earlier, or at least have given him a warning, just like with Rey. In the end, we had to be satisfied with a brief cameo in the form of his voice in Episode 9.
