The three German Twitch streamers Trymacs, Chefstrobel, and Rumathra have been attempting a particularly difficult Pokémon challenge for over a year: the Trio Soullink Challenge. Even though they have only failed so far, they already have plans for the future.
What is this Pokémon challenge? The so-called Trio Soullink Challenge involves a special set of rules under which a Pokémon game must be completed. The Twitch streamers Trymacs, Chefstrobel, and Rumathra are currently trying to complete Pokémon Black/White 2 while following these rules:
- On each route, only the first Pokémon encountered may be caught and added to the team.
- Pokémon that are defeated in battle are considered dead and may no longer be used.
- The Pokémon of the three are interconnected. For example, if a Pokémon from Trymacs dies, the connected Pokémon of Rumathra and Chefstrobel also die.
- Items like potions may only be used in battle if the opposing trainer has previously used an item. No items may be used in battles against wild Pokémon.
- If one loses all 6 Pokémon in battle and faints in the game, the challenge must be restarted.
The Pokémon challenge has already reached a sort of cult status among the three Twitch streamers. After all, they have been trying it for almost a year: The first YouTube video was posted on Trymacs’s channel in July 2025. Even the fact that the three locked themselves in an apartment for days to play didn’t ultimately help.
At least the viewer numbers are impressive: According to SullyGnome, Trymacs had a peak of 18,913 viewers during his latest stream of the Soullink Challenge.
Regular failure does not deter from Pokémon
What are they planning for the future? Their repeated failures do not seem to deter the three Twitch streamers from planning more of these challenges for the future. As Trymacs announced at the beginning of his stream, the following editions are already in sight:
- Pokémon Emerald
- Pokémon Heart Gold / Soul Silver
- Pokémon Platinum
Additionally, further Pokémon challenges in teams of six, meaning in 3 pairs against each other, are planned. This would then take place in Generation 6 – Pokémon X and Y.
What is the current status of the challenge? In the past three days, Trymacs, Rumathra, and Chefstrobel have intensively attempted the Trio Soullink Challenge again. Their 81st attempt seemed promising, but this too ultimately turned out to be a failure due to the demise of a team. Yesterday, the three ended their stream with the 82nd attempt, which has been going quite well so far.

Not only the Pokémon challenge in threes was very popular among viewers, but also a Duo Soullink Challenge. Varion and Chefstrobel played in one team against Trymacs and Zarbex. The winning team is the one that progresses further in the Pokémon edition Heart Gold.
