A trainer had bad luck and lost his account in Pokémon GO. However, through a trick outside of the regular support, he was able to get it back.
For most trainers, losing their account in Pokémon GO is perhaps the ultimate nightmare, as years of progress can lead to a strong attachment. A trainer on Reddit reports that this happened to him: he lost his account, which he had been playing since July 2016, to a potential hacker.
His attempt to regain access to his account through Niantic’s support failed. Therefore, he chose another way, which ultimately led to the successful restoration of his profile.
Emails, Evidence, Account
What did the trainer do? The trainer first retrieved his Trainer Code. This can serve as a unique identifier for an account. With this code, he then wrote an email that he sent to the terms and conditions department of Niantic and the legal department of Scopely.
He referred to paragraph 13 of the terms and conditions of Niantic, which states, among other things: “There may be cases when a dispute arises between you and Niantic. If this occurs, Niantic strives to work with you to find a quick, cost-effective, and mutually beneficial solution”.
In the email, he mentioned data such as the Trainer Code, the account name, and the start date. He also pointed out that he possesses further evidence, such as catch locations of monsters, to prove that it is his account.
Finally, the trainer indicated that if he does not receive a response within 45 days, he would take further legal action.
How did Niantic respond? Shortly after, an employee contacted the trainer within a few days. This employee provided additional information such as his recently used smartphones, PokéStops he submitted, as well as cities and times for catching some rare monsters. Subsequently, he regained access to his account.
According to the trainer, it took 8 days from the email to the successful restoration.
