A Dungeon Master takes a simple but effective extra step to create an even more immersive gaming experience for their players in Dungeons & Dragons in the tabletop setting.
How does the DM enhance the immersion of the campaign? The DM PMbyday_DMbynight posted on Reddit a picture of a prop from their last session: It consists of physical letters and other handouts that look like they are sent directly from the campaign to the table.
For this, he created the “parchment” himself by printing on cheap brown paper, aging it a bit, and then putting it in an envelope that he finally sealed. (As a shoutout, he mentions the YouTuber Plant Based Bride, whose video tutorial helped him with the execution.)
When he physically handed this homemade piece from the campaign to his players at the table, he knew he had done everything right, and he realized, “This is truly one of the best and easiest ways to make the tabletop experience even more intense.”
A tactile prop makes the story literally more tangible
How did his players react? The DM reports that his players did not open the letters directly, but turned the envelopes, checked the seal, and held and examined them as if they were really important.
“There was silence at the whole table for a few seconds,” the DM writes in his Reddit post, “In that moment, I realized that physical handouts are indispensable.”

Another DM writes that due to lack of preparation time, he resorts to reusable props, such as healing potions or other handouts that are used more frequently. Another explains that a kind of logbook or journal can also be maintained by hand, into which players are occasionally allowed to peek.
