After Critical Role gained a new Dungeon Master in the current Campaign 4, Matt Mercer is set to return at least for a short mini-series. However, at his table, not only the known faces of the group are playing, but also new, famous stars.

Campaign 4 of Critical Role has been running since October 2025 and for the first time in the main campaigns of the group, Matt Mercer is not the Dungeon Master, but a player. He is replaced by Brennan Lee Mulligan, a well-known and popular veteran.

Mulligan’s new methods and ideas are well received, yet Mercer is returning for a short while. The upcoming spin-off Age of Umbra: Sallowlands will be a six-part mini-series and will air starting July 9 every Thursday on Beacon, Twitch, and YouTube. The VODs on YouTube will be available the following Mondays.

Sallowlands, unlike the main campaigns, does not use Dungeons & Dragons as its basis, but the system Daggerheart created by Critical Role. The setting is meant to be dark with a world abandoned by the gods, where its inhabitants must fight for survival.

In the round, besides Matt Mercer, Laura Bailey, Abubakar Salim, and Zachery Renauldo from the known cast will return. Joining on the player side are:
