MyMMO editor Nikolas Hernes plays in League of Legends Classic mainly a role that is actually quite stressful. In the new mode, it feels like a vacation, although it is actually terrible.
The jungle is considered a pretty tough role in LoL. You have to take care of a lot. Ideally, you gank a lot and help the lanes, then farm enough so that you don’t fall behind. That causes quite a bit of stress, even for me. I actually like the jungle, but with all the objectives (dragon, herald, rift scuttler, void grubs, and baron), the role often turns into a rather frustrating experience.
You have to manage everything, which is why I usually switch to the top lane, a somewhat calmer role. But this is where LoL Classic comes into play, because in the new mode, I love nothing more than jungling, even though the role was really terrible back then.
A terribly beautiful vacation
While in modern LoL you can actually play the jungle with any champion, Classic is a whole different caliber. The monsters are significantly stronger, you need help with the first buff with many champions, and it will not be uncommon for you or your opponent to suddenly be dead because you underestimated the strength of the jungle creatures.
Moreover, everything is much slower than in modern LoL, and ganks don’t occur particularly quickly unless you are playing Shaco, Evelynn, or Warwick.
Exactly that is a dream come true for me. LoL Classic feels like a vacation for me, especially in the jungle.
Yes, I have also died in the jungle, but because of the reduced pace, everything doesn’t feel that bad. Jungle camps respawn so quickly that you can constantly farm. This also benefits ganks because you don’t have to do a full clear to avoid falling behind the opponent.
At the same time, I don’t have to worry about the crab and the other objectives. Even the dragon is not as essential as in modern LoL, making losing it not that significant. Without these objectives, there are also fewer small team fights in the river, which is relaxing for me.
Not only do I like the relaxed pace of play in the Classic jungle, but also the opportunities to annoy the opposing jungler.

Just let a few creatures live
If you really want to annoy the opposing jungler, you can steal buffs and other jungle camps. If you leave a small monster behind, the buff won’t respawn.
The blue buff is particularly nasty since some junglers need it in the early game to make it through the jungle efficiently, like Fiddlesticks or Amumu. They then have to rely on mana potions or return to base earlier.
If you efficiently steal the creatures because the opponent ganks too often, you can gain a strong level advantage. This works especially well with Lee Sin or Shaco, who are quite mobile in LoL Classic.
For me, LoL Classic is like for others Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley. I can start a relaxed round in the jungle, farm, and immerse myself in nostalgia – What could be better than that?
