With League of Legends Classic, Riot has released a new mode that aims to bring both old and new players into nostalgia. This includes strange tactics that are no longer possible today. One team demonstrates that you can finish a match in just under 3 minutes if you take along a forgotten spell.
Since July 29, 2026, players can dive into the old Summoner’s Rift in LoL Classic and play with old versions of their favorite champions. There are not only many old items to choose from, but also long-forgotten summoner spells have returned.
With one of them, a rather interesting tactic can be applied, with which one team finished a match in just 3 minutes and 14 seconds.
Strengthen minions and push through the middle
How could a match end so quickly? On Reddit, user sebbe2002010 posted a clip of a match that ended in just 3:14 minutes. His entire team waits on the mid lane until the minions arrive. Each team member has the old summoner spell Promote
(in German: Befördern
) and enhances one minion on the lane.
Poor Katarina from the opposing team can do nothing against this overwhelming force, and since towers in Classic are weaker than in regular LoL, the team simply pushes through. The opposing team also arrives late to assist the mid laner, causing the match to end after just 3 minutes and 14 seconds.
It should be mentioned that this worked so well only because truly no one came to help before the team reached the Nexus, but even with assistance, the Reddit user’s team could probably have taken one or two towers.
What exactly is Promote
as a summoner spell? Promote was available since the release of League of Legends in 2009 and enhanced a minion by granting it bonus stats. Additionally, you earned gold through kills of that minion.
The spell was ultimately removed with patch V1.0.0.152 on December 4, 2012. A similar mechanic was also provided by the item “Command Banner,” which was added in the same patch but ultimately removed with patch V8.12 on June 13, 2018.
