Update 1.8 is approaching. According to the developers, it will give players what they have wanted in The Division for a long time.
In March 2017, Ubisoft and Massive presented the key innovations of Year 2 of The Division. It was stated that Update 1.7 would introduce Global Events as an exciting feature, and then a larger Update 1.8 would come that would deliver more game content.
Meanwhile, six good months later, not much has happened in Year 2. So far, only one Global Event has taken place, lasting exactly 7 days. After that, it was over. The next Global Event will not start until October.
The other features that have come so far, like Loadouts and commendations, have mostly been well received, but did not deliver the long-awaited new content.
With 1.8, this should change. In autumn 2017, agents will finally receive fresh game content – and that for free!
Update 1.8 introduces long-awaited game content
Recently, The Division developers spoke in a livestream about the goals they are pursuing with Update 1.8. One developer replied, that the big goal is to finally give players what they have wanted in The Division for a long time.
Basically, agents have been creating lists since the launch of The Division, enumerating the innovations they wish for in the future that would make The Division a better game. Like a map expansion, like PvP without PvE, or ways to upgrade gear.
All these things, and more, will be brought by Update 1.8:
- The first map expansion of the PvE area is coming. The map will open to the west towards the West Side Pier.
- Many users complain that the PvE enemies always stand around listlessly on the streets until you attack them. In the new PvE area, enemies will now spawn unexpectedly and randomly, providing a new player experience each time.
- New narrative elements will be introduced. The enemy factions will unite in 1.8. You will experience this “story” through audio logs.
- “Skirmish” will be the first pure PvP mode. Only agents will fight against each other. There are no NPCs. The maps are significantly smaller than in “Last Stand”, making the battles more intense.
- A long-requested Endless PvE Horde Mode is coming. It is called Resistance. In this mode, you must fend off waves of enemies, with the waves becoming continuously more challenging. The mode only ends when you die.
- The Underground, which has not been changed since its launch, will become exciting again. With 1.8, there will be better loot and new challenges. For example, hunters will now hunt you in the Underground!

However, not all wishes will be fulfilled with Update 1.8. There will be no new story missions or a first raid in 2017.
Nevertheless, many agents are currently positively surprised by how much content 1.8 delivers. Our reader maledicus writes that The Division is getting a real boost. He will check back in. Matima finds the innovation that hunters appear in the Underground “really cool”. Also, Lotte writes that she is looking forward to 1.8 more and more. In her opinion, this update is going exactly in the direction that suits her.
