In Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War there are many ways to rack up enemy kills and the most enjoyable methods include scorestreaks. MeinMMO presents the best ones for multiplayer.
What are scorestreaks? In Call of Duty, “streaks” is a catch-all term for various war devices that come in various sizes and heat things up for the opponents accordingly.
In most CoDs with streaks, there was a killstreak system that rewarded you for many consecutive kills, as long as you didn’t die. The more kills, the better and more powerful the support.
Black Ops Cold War introduced a novel scorestreak system that even allows deaths during the streak, and MeinMMO shows you the 7 best scorestreaks that you can redeem for your hard-earned points. There are also small tips and tricks for usage and countering.
The kill counters listed here do not take extra points into account, only the points from eliminations and streaks.
The cheap supporters: 0 – 2,000 points
- Spy Plane – 1,000 points
- Supplies – 1,800 points
The Spy Plane: The small reconnaissance plane hovers over the mission area and marks enemy targets on your mini-map. The perk “Ghost” suppresses detection as long as the target is moving.
A cheap and helpful gadget that allows you to see a good portion of the enemies briefly on the mini-map. However, it can easily be taken down with a shot from the lock-on missile launcher “Cigma 2”.
Required consecutive kills: 6
The Supplies: The surprise bag among the streaks. You throw a marker on the ground in the open air and a friendly helicopter brings you supplies – the contents are random, though. On completely covered maps like “Checkmate”, the box still falls to the ground despite the roof’s resistance.
Especially exciting if you often achieve rather low streaks. Because here you also get a chance for the big toys. If your enemies are quick enough, however, they can shoot down the supply helicopter before the valuable cargo reaches you. Required consecutive kills: 8
The annoying explosive rounds: 2,000 – 4,000
- Artillery – 2,500 points
- Cruise Missile – 2,600 points
- War Machine – 3,500 points
The Artillery: Here, distant shooters await your coordinates for a targeted bombardment. When activating, you look at a display with the current map and receive a brief reconnaissance ping that reveals targets to you. You can then mark 3 areas on the map that will face a small rain of bombs.
You only have the reconnaissance ping the first time you look at the display. If you change your mind, you will have to fire blind next time if there is no drone from your team in the sky. It also takes a few seconds for the projectiles to hit the destination. If you belong to the target team, quickly change your running direction. This way, you can often avoid the bombardment.
Required consecutive kills: 9
The Cruise Missiles: Here again, you briefly look at a display but this time, you see the thermal view of a rocket that, along with 2 relatives, races towards the map from above. Enemies without the perk “Cold-Blooded” are marked with red squares. If you bring a square to the center of your screen, one of the back rockets will fly towards the marked enemy. You can then guide the second rocket into a square before you direct the last rocket to the target yourself.
You need to be damn quick in target selection. The cruise missiles are flying at breakneck speed and hit quickly. With a push of a button, you can even increase the speed if you see enemies running toward a pesky cover.
Required consecutive kills: 9
The War Machine: A nasty one-shot cannon that provides you with 12 deadly grenades. Every opponent hit by a projectile or standing too close to the impact site goes to respawn.
If you already have the device in hand but haven’t fired yet, you retain the streak even after dying. However, once you’ve let off the first shot, you lose the War Machine if you go down. The perk “Flak Jacket” helps against the explosions, but since the 12 shots can be fired in rapid succession, you can often still go down pretty quickly.
Required consecutive kills: 10
The match destroyers: 4,000 – 10,000
- Helicopter Gunner – 6,000 points
- VTOL Escort – 8,000 points
The Helicopter Gunner: You take a seat as a helicopter minigun shooter and keep the map under constant fire. You again get enemies marked with red squares, which are suppressed by the perk “Cold-Blooded”.
The streak is powerful and promises many kills, but with enough fire, the heli can be shot down from the sky. Also, the minigun is hard to control during sustained fire but deals enough damage to take down enemies even with fewer shots. When you play 6v6 matches on modified 12v12 maps, the gunner’s use is less effective, as you circle the entire map rather than just over the reduced play area of the smaller modes.
To bring it down, you need a lot of firepower. Rocket launchers and weapons with vehicle damage-barrels help here.
Required consecutive kills: 13
The VTOL Escort: Similar to the heli gunner, but much better. You sit in a fighter jet that you control yourself, allowing you to dodge enemy fire and reveal enemies more effectively. The VTOL also offers multiple firing modes with which it terrorizes its enemies.
The VTOL is a particularly nasty and persistent killstreak. However, it can be effectively fought with weapons that have an increased vehicle damage barrel installed.
Required consecutive kills: 15
Noteworthy alternatives
- Turret – 2,000 points
- Attack Plane – 10,000 points
The Turret: You simply set up the automatic turret and let it do its job. In some situations, it is really strong, but often it suffers the full wrath of the opposing team and is quickly destroyed. Particularly against melee attacks, the device seems allergic. Unfortunately, it is usually not as effective as one might imagine, but can be useful depending on the combat situation.
Required consecutive kills: 8
The Attack Plane: You can have a war movie style appearance with a 10,000 scorestreak. You get access to a bomber’s arsenal for a satisfying amount of time. This streak is only missing from the list above because it is incredibly difficult to earn.
Overall, the attack plane offers 3 firing modes that you should ideally fire in rotation: When the cannons are empty, use “Weapon Switch” and switch to the next larger caliber. If that salvo is also headed for helpless enemies, switch weapons again and bring even larger, highly explosive projectiles onto the battlefield. You repeat this as long as you are on the flying fortress.
Required consecutive kills: 17
What should I consider when choosing my scorestreaks? When you finish a match and then enter the lobby search, pay attention to the next map. Many covered maps hinder the use of scorestreaks from the air to some extent, making them less effective.
If, for example, “Checkmate” or “Garrison” is on the plan, pack the War Machine rather than the artillery strike. However, if “Satellite” is on the agenda, you can benefit from the full power of the scorestreaks from the air.
Discontinued streaks and points list for scorestreaks
What about the other streaks? Cold War offers a total of 16 scorestreaks, but some are often not worth their points.
- Combat Bow – Delivers one-shot kills but is slow and disadvantaged against most weapons.
- Guided Missile – A cool mini-explosive car that can be easily shot down. Is supposed to come to Warzone soon
- Armor – Gives you a bit more health, but usually helps only in a firefight.
- Napalm Strike – Bombards an area that is then slightly blocked by fire. However, the area is very small and the effect is short.
- Air Patrol – Engages enemy aircraft. For 3,200 points, it is clearly too little.
- Attack Helicopter – Patrols briefly over your position but only works well on open maps. It can also be quickly shot down by weapons with vehicle damage barrels.
While they can also offer strong support under the right circumstances, in most cases, the streaks listed above provide you with more. New streaks may even come to Cold War. A leak before release showed a total of 21 war toys.
How many points do killstreaks give? Even though you now earn your streaks through points, killstreaks still represent an important tool for racking up the big war devices. Every kill gives you 50 points for the elimination plus a bonus for your streak and extra points at every 5th level:
- 2nd – 4th kill: 50 points
- 5th kill: 500 points
- 6th kill: 300 points
- 7th kill: 350 points
- 8th kill: 400 points
- 9th kill: 450 points
- 10th kill: 2,000 points
- 11th – 14th kill: 500 points
- 15th kill: 2,000 points
- 16th – 19th kill: 500 points
- 20th kill: 2,000 points
- 21st – 24th kill: 500 points
- 25th kill: 2,500 points
- 26th – 29th kill: 500 points
- 30th kill: 3,000 points
After the 30th consecutive kill, you continue to earn streak points. However, most are probably already enjoying the execution of the only killstreak in Black Ops Cold War: the Nuke. It blows up the entire battlefield and ends the match in favor of your team.
