Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has hit the market, once again bringing an action-packed multiplayer experience. A long-time CoD expert showcases his top 5 weapons in multiplayer at the release, and MeinMMO introduces himself here.
In the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, everything revolves around the most refined tactics, the most suitable equipment, and the most precise aiming. But often before these things, there is the best weapon. A strong and well-playable rifle supports your tactics and rewards your precise aiming.
The YouTuber and CoD expert “TheXclusiveAce” has made it his mission right at release to show you his top 5 weapons, and we at MeinMMO do not want to keep his insights from you. We are embedding his English video here for you:
Rank 5: Type 63 – Semi-Automatic Rifle with a Gentle Soul
What makes the weapon strong? The list starts with a firearm from the tactical rifle class. The weapons of this class resemble a mix of assault rifles and DMRs, with the Type 63 leaning more towards DMR.
You get a controllable semi-automatic rifle that allows you 3-shot kills with body hits and even goes down to 2-shot kills if you can land a headshot. This rifle is particularly suited for medium to long range and reliably takes down your enemies in the crosshairs.
Where does it have weaknesses? In close combat. When it comes to fighting at short distances, you need to land a headshot to compete against SMGs. Otherwise, you are at a disadvantage if you and your opponent begin firing at roughly the same time.
Are there any attachment recommendations? Ace recommends adding attachments for a higher rate of fire. This will further reduce your time-to-kill (TTK).
Rank 4: AK-47 – Hits Hard and Is Easy to Control
What makes the weapon strong? The weapon comes out at launch as a strong all-rounder and is surprisingly easy to control. The assault rifle is otherwise known for its rough character but impresses in Cold War with good handling, paired with the best TTK of the assault rifles (about 300 ms).
Where does it have weaknesses? It is slightly weak in time to aim (also about 300 ms) and its bullet speed.
Are there any attachment recommendations? You should compensate and mask both weaknesses with attachments. Although it doesn’t achieve top values here, the strong TTK and high assault rifle range make the AK-47 a reliable companion.
Rank 3: AK-47u – An SMG with Extremely Fast Bullets
What makes the weapon strong? The AK-47u was among the best weapons in the Alpha and carries this strength into the final game. It comes with a strong TTK (258 ms), beating every submachine gun and offers exceptional bullet speed, almost double that of all competitors in the SMG class.
Where does it have weaknesses? Your aim speed with the AK-47u is more on the assault rifle level. Here it is noticeably slower than the rest of its class.
Are there any attachment recommendations? Give the weapon a boost and increase its ADS speed. Anything that gets you on target faster brings death to your enemies faster.
Rank 2: M16 & AUG – Brothers from Another Mother
What makes the weapons strong? These two are also representatives of the tactical rifles, but come with burst fire (3-shot burst). The fantastic thing about these guns: If the 3 shots are well-placed (body, chest), you sweep your enemies away with a burst. They are stable, have high range, and good bullet speeds.
The two play quite similarly but come with slight differences:
- M16 – Better recoil
- AUG – Higher range & rate of fire

Where do they have weaknesses? When the burst connects, the TTK is outstanding (150 ms). However, the weapons do not forgive. If you don’t take the enemy down directly, your TTK increases significantly, and almost all other weapons will outdo you. Therefore, only experienced shooters should use these.
Are there any attachment recommendations? Look for a sight that works for you and a few attachments that reduce your “flinch.” That is the effect you feel when enemy bullets hit you. In Cold War, that’s called “Flinch Resistance,” which you can usually find on grip attachments.
Rank 1: MP5 – The Long-Standing Performer from CoD MW
What makes the weapon strong? Someone at Call of Duty loves the German weapon MP5. The gun is once again among the top tiers of weapons in Cold War, just like in Modern Warfare. It offers the second-best TTK among the SMGs (280 ms), but comes with a significantly higher range than the Rank 3 AK-74u. Additionally, it’s stable, quick to aim, and due to its high rates of fire, a shot can sometimes go wide without causing a major disadvantage in 1vs1.

Where does it have weaknesses? Compared to the SMG competitor AK-74u, the MP5 lacks somewhat in bullet speed. Here, the AK version excels, and the MW long-standing performer is only half as fast in terms of bullet speed.
Are there any attachment recommendations? The MP5 is extremely versatile and offers many possibilities. However, you always want to engage in close combat with the weapon, and you can modify the device accordingly – high aim speed and high barrel speeds help you outgun your enemies with the MP5. Here you can find a strong setup for the MP5.

XclusiveAce believes that SMGs are particularly strong this year. Because the map design allows you to engage in almost any combat situation at close range. You should experiment the most at the beginning, but also use other weapon classes so you know how they perform and how to counter them better. Or you can simply start grinding the rarest camos in multiplayer.
