Malfurion Stormrage, Archdruid of the Moon Glade
Tyrande, save me!
Standing in the way of nature is heresy. Even when the force of nature is destructive.
Title: Archdruid of the Kaldorei | Archdruid of the Moon Glade | Shan’do | First of the Druids
Although Malfurion has fallen somewhat out of favor with the player base in the expansion Legion due to a quest line with somewhat annoying voice acting, he is one of the most powerful Night Elves ever.
As an Archdruid, he has not only a direct connection to the Emerald Dream but also likes to confer with demigods and other powerful beings. He is the first known pupil of the demigod Cenarius and learned from him much druidic knowledge that far exceeds that of other druids.
How powerful Malfurion is can also be seen in how enemies assess him. Xavius saw Malfurion as the greatest potential threat to his plans, which is why he wanted to eliminate him as quickly as possible.
During the War of the Ancients, it was Malfurion who managed to thwart Azshara’s plans – even though he relied on the help of Tyrande, Illidan, and the travelers from the future (such as Broxigar, one of the 5 most powerful Orcs).
In Warcraft III, Malfurion, along with his wife Tyrande, was the driving force of the Night Elves, who helped to fend off the invasion of the Burning Legion and the advance of the Scourge. Even though saving Azeroth cost the Night Elves their immortality and devastated the World Tree Hyjal, this accomplishment is still regarded as one of the greatest deeds ever done in Azeroth.
During the conflicts around Darkshore, Malfurion was feared by the Horde. No wonder, he is seen as a demigod among his enemies, who can make entire battalions of vines ensnare and drag into the ground.
In the community, there were persistent rumors that Blizzard itself no longer knew where they wanted to go with Malfurion. He had simply become too powerful, so they had to “freeze” him for a while – this happened when Ysera swapped places with Malfurion and he slept in the Ardenweald for a while.
But Malfurion is particularly well-versed in sleeping. Sooner or later, he too will have to wake up from the nice “family life” in Bel’ameth and join the world’s conflicts. Most likely, this will happen in the upcoming expansion Midnight.
