Tyrande Whisperwind, High Priestess of Elune
Only the goddess can forbid me anything.
Title: High Priestess of Elune | The Night Warrior | Chosen of the Moon
No other priestess in World of Warcraft is as well-known as Tyrande Whisperwind, who represented the head of all Night Elves for many centuries.
However, “priestess” has a different meaning among the Night Elves than among the rest of the races of Azeroth. For Kaldorei priestesses rarely run around in dresses or stand reverently by a moon well (okay, they do that sometimes) – but they are also skilled hunters and warriors, who have been on the hunt for many centuries.
Tyrande is more than just “one” High Priestess of Elune, as she has been specially chosen by the Moon Goddess.
Not only did she manage to undergo the ritual of the “Night Warrior”, which is highly likely to mean death or a drastically shortened life, but she was even temporarily imbued by Elune herself and became her avatar in conversation with the Winter Queen in the Ardenweald.
In battle, she relies not only on priestly powers, like the blessings of Elune, but also on fighting with glaives, bows, or even using her spectral snow owl Dori’thur.
In battle, Tyrande can easily measure herself with the great leaders of other races. She defeated Nathanos Blightcaller after he nearly killed the heroes of Azeroth, stood her ground against Sylvanas Windrunner, and managed to survive alone in the Maw and Torghast for several months without major problems – something that nearly all others have failed at.
After the Night Elves managed to bring the new world tree Amirdrassil from the Emerald Dream to the physical realm, Tyrande has retreated a bit with her family – meaning Malfurion and Shandris. She currently lives in the city of Bel’ameth and takes care of the remaining Kaldorei there.
But it’s surely only a matter of time before Tyrande will have to reappear.
