Welcome to the MeinMMO format “What We’re Playing This Weekend”. We will tell you what we are playing during the free days and why you should have this game on your radar right now. In this issue, MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz once again steps into the shoes of Geralt.
This is what is occupying me this weekend: Exactly the game I was playing non-stop last weekend: “The Witcher 3”, with the two DLCs “Hearts of Stone” and “Blood and Wine”. Why right now? The surprising announcement of the new expansion “Songs of the Past” is to blame.
If the DLC is released sometime in 2027, I want to dive into the new adventure with my own Geralt immediately. And for “The Witcher 4”, a refresh will certainly not hurt.
My previous experiences with “The Witcher 3” have unfortunately been very fragmented because I had to rely on a access provided by CD Projekt Red for my test of “Blood and Wine”, which I no longer have access to today.
Meanwhile, my GOG account has the main game with a decent amount of playtime, but it lacks the DLCs. Additionally, I didn’t like the idea of tackling such a large RPG like “The Witcher 3” on PC over the summer. The couch feels much friendlier after work.
But I was lucky: I was able to secure the main game and both DLCs for only a few euros for my PlayStation 5 (Sorry, the promotion is now over). So I spontaneously went for it and installed the wild hunt to start a new, this time complete run.
A Milestone of the RPG Genre
What makes “The Witcher 3” special? There are many good reasons why the third part of the series has become one of the most successful and highly rated role-playing games of all time. Personally, I simply like Geralt as the main character. The world of the witcher is both pleasantly grounded and rough, but also magical and full of fairy-tale elements.
It is also simply fun to explore the open world with Roach and discover secrets or blow up monster nests. Throughout the game, you repeatedly stumble into some of the best quests in the genre, which are emotionally gripping, entertaining with their witty dialogues, and present you with tricky decisions.
With the current run, I have already clocked 24 hours of gameplay, and I am still quite far from the adventures in “Blood and Wine”, but I am already very much looking forward to returning to Toussaint. For me, the developers have created one of the best DLCs in gaming history here, and that for an already almost unreasonably fair price.
Our recommendation: Unfortunately, the recent promotion for “The Witcher 3” on PlayStation 5 ended on June 11, and there are currently no discounts on Steam and GOG that I could recommend. However, that shouldn’t be a problem. According to experience, the witcher is often a regular guest during major Steam sales and is frequently available for just a few euros.
But even if you spend 50 euros somewhere for the edition with all contents, it is worth it from my perspective. Geralt has aged wonderfully like a fine wine, and I am currently having so much fun roaming the still very beautiful and detailed world as a white wolf.
And the scope is beyond any doubt. Anyone looking to catch up on all the important quests before the release of “Songs of the Past” or in preparation for “The Witcher 4” can easily plan for 150 hours. Speaking of which: The Witcher 4 is also expected to be released next year and will be one of the most expensive games worldwide
