They are huge, dangerous marine creatures that occupy and roam different areas of the map. In most cases, they will even attack you if you get too close, and when they do, the fight will be short because they are very deadly.
You could avoid them, but for many, they are an important part of their survival journey – whether related to the main story or just general survival. Many divers want to scan these gigantic beings to obtain new information. Unfortunately, this is not so easy, but some fans have tips for you that make this undertaking easier.
3 Tips for Relaxed Scanning

The Trick with a Decoy (Solo Play)
The Steam user Muhspaceaids recommends finishing your scans with a decoy. In his case, he used the tadpole as bait and drove towards the Leviathan. During this time, he keeps zooming in closer to the gigantic marine creature. At the moment the creature wants to grab or attack the vehicle, you jump out of the vehicle.
Now, it will either be occupied with the vehicle or swim away. During this time, you can swim after the monster and complete the scan. Of course, you sacrifice a tadpole for this, but you can recreate it. Make sure your vehicle does not have any important resources in the inventory or you might lose them.
The Stealth Method
FrenziedMidra recommends a more professional method by using the biomod “Camouflage”. With this, you become invisible to all living beings around you as long as you do not move. This way, you can wait like a predator until one of the Leviathans crosses your path, just to quickly scan it.
The Frontal Approach
If you’re looking for action, you can also simply take your Sonic Blaster and aim it at the Leviathan, as Fox suggests. With one shot, you stun the creature and can quickly swim up to scan it.
Apart from the listed methods, scanning a Leviathan is also much easier with friends. As in Method 1, one diver acts as a decoy, drawing the creature’s aggro. The other players can then scan the Leviathan during this time. Of course, you should rescue your teammate afterward before he ends up as fish food.
