In Subnautica 2 there are not only normal and small sea creatures but also gigantic alpha animals that rule entire biomes. These “Leviathans” can pose a danger to you, and to let you know which ones currently exist, we will show them to you.
What are Leviathans? In Subnautica 2, you can encounter gigantic sea creatures just like in its predecessor – the Leviathans. They are alpha animals that can be found in various biomes. However, explorers who are not careful can quickly end up as fish food, as these beings often defend their territory and do not hesitate to harm you or your vehicles.
Can Leviathans be defeated? It is still unclear whether divers in Subnautica 2 can defeat the large beasts. However, this was possible in the predecessor.
Is it worth defeating the Leviathans? No, not really. The Leviathans in Subnautica serve less as a goal and more as a barrier meant to throw you off. Players were able to defeat them in the predecessor, but they did not drop any loot. You are meant to feel small in their presence and to be scared when venturing into unknown areas, as they represent a deadly threat.
Many are still wondering what Leviathans exist in Subnautica 2, and we will now show you exactly that in the list.
Shiver Leviathan
The Shiver Leviathan lives up to its name, as the sea creature freezes its enemies in fright at first sight. Anatomically, it resembles a bird gliding through the sea with its wings spread wide. However, its head is a bony skull and it has shiny orbs reminiscent of pearls on its cheeks.

These beings roam the depths of the Voids in groups. The male specimens are smaller and like to cling to the gigantic female counterparts. They are very deadly, and anyone who confronts them will be torn apart by the group – so be careful when you see them for the first time.
Collector Leviathan
The Collector Leviathan is a gigantic cephalopod. You can recognize it by its glowing forehead and its gigantic tentacles. Although it may look cute from a distance, you should not confront it, as it is looking for trouble. The moment it spots you, it will chase and try to grab you – so make sure to keep your distance.

The Collector is also the largest Leviathan you can encounter in Subnautica 2. You often find it in the Outer Bounds or Sparse Plains.
World Tree
SPOILER WARNING: In Subnautica 2, the World Tree is an important point in the story. You will learn through scans what this tree is about. So if you want to avoid spoilers, you should not read on from here.
The World Tree is a titan-class Leviathan. You will acquire this information throughout the story through various scans. If this being becomes active and starts to move, it could be the largest Leviathan in Subnautica 2, but so far it is just vegetating.

It is quite possible that the developers might deepen the story around this being, but as long as that does not happen, the World Tree is just a gigantic mushroom in the sea.
Those were all the Leviathans that you can find and observe in Subnautica 2. As the survival game is still in early access, it is quite possible that more gigantic creatures will be developed and implemented. Until then, you will have to be patient.
