In Subnautica 2 there is a special resource, the Axum bacteria culture. It is well hidden, found on the ocean floor, but to do so you need to dive deep. We will show you why this material is so important and where the best locations can be found.
Where can I find Axum bacteria cultures? These bacteria are collected at a very specific location, but to get there, you need a depth module for your Seamoth – with it, you can access even deeper areas in Subnautica 2. If your vehicle is well equipped, head to the research outpost. Now turn your compass to 100 degrees and swim down until you reach the Angel Ridge.
Now, turn towards the northeast and continue swimming into the gorge until you see a green/yellow shimmer in the distance – there are the abandoned metal farms of the aliens. Get out of your Seamoth and swim towards the acid pools. On the ground, you will see various round grid structures where bubbles have formed. These bubbles are the Axum bacteria cultures.
How should I harvest them best? Before you break them open to access the Axum, you should save your game. Currently, there is a bug where some bacteria cultures can glitch through the floor and you might lose them. Now break open the shell and collect them.
Do the bacteria cultures respawn? Unfortunately not. There are currently only 5 specimens of the cultures in the entire game. Therefore, use a backup of your game file so that you don’t lose an Axum due to the bug.
What do I need it for? The Axum bacteria cultures are needed for you to build metal farms. For the construction project, you need per metal farm:
- 1x Manganese alloy ingot
- 1x Axum bacteria culture
These metal farms can passively produce minerals for you if you supply them with electricity. This can be particularly advantageous in the endgame when resources become scarce. So sooner or later, you will come to build these anyway.
