The survival game “SOS” has thrown its concept overboard and is now called SOS Battle Royale. Now the game is Free2Play and has little to do with the original game. The fans are not in agreement and express their dissatisfaction through Steam reviews.
This is how SOS was originally: The idea of SOS was to throw 16 players onto a map. There they had 30 minutes to find a relic and reach a helicopter that would take them off the island. However, there were only three seats in the helicopter. The game had some survival elements. For instance, players could build traps and weapons.
Tailored for streamers and Twitch
Special twist “Live audience”: The joke of SOS was that it wanted to be a “reality TV show” in front of a live audience. The game was extremely tailored to streamers and their communities. The audience could intervene in the game. Many thought, SOS favored streamers too much. Nevertheless, it was at least an interesting concept.
Known through Snoop Dogg: The game received a brief moment in the spotlight when rapper “Snoop Dogg” promoted it in a stream in January. Especially because Snoop made little effort, it was quirky. People clearly saw: “He’s not even playing himself, but letting someone else play for him.”
No more survival, but Battle Royale
Change in direction F2P: In May, the creators of SOS decided to remove all elements of the reality TV show and thus all survival elements. These things moved to the “Classic Mode,” while the new game was supposed to be a typical “battle royale” game. Now 1-32 players land on the island “La Cuna” and the one who stands at the end wins. This was then called “SOS Battle Royale” and became completely Free2Play with the latest patch.
Classic Mode is being abolished: The current announcement to completely abolish the “Classic Mode” has now created angry Steam reviews. People are demanding their money back. The current Steam reviews are balanced, while the recent ones are “extremely negative.” SOS is still a game in early access.
