Horror movies are a popular film genre because they throw their protagonists into extreme situations and play with our own fears. In Halloween, we meet a killer who has since achieved cult status.

Halloween was not the first slasher of its kind, but it is certainly the most well-known. The killer Michael Myers is known even by those who have not seen the film.
In the original, we first meet him as a child, later he terrorizes the small town of Haddonfield and kills several people. The focus seems particularly to be on the girl Laurie, whom Myers stalks repeatedly.
His white mask and overall make him anonymous and creepy as he roams through the neighborhood. Regularly, the camera shows the events through the killer’s own eyes, creating an unsettling feeling. Overall, the film was very influential and led to a boom in the slasher genre – just think of Friday the 13th in the 80s or Scream (as a parody of the genre) in the 90s.
