As the developer studio Jagex announced, a moderator had to be fired for manipulating the economy system of the MMORPG Oldschool Runescape.
Manipulation of the economy system is something that the Runescape community cannot tolerate. Now, a Jagex employee has been fired for exactly that reason.

Moderator manipulated the economy
What happened? During a routine check, it was noticed that there were strange activities on some accounts of the MMORPG Oldschool Runescape. This included items and gold from these accounts being transferred back into the game.
The problem was resolved before it had any impact on the MMO’s economy system, Jagex assures. Investigations revealed manipulation. Jagex identified an employee who was responsible and fired him.
Why is this such a big problem? The economy in Oldschool Runescape is sacred to the players and a driving factor for many to continue staying in the legacy version of Runescape.
The developers usually stay out of the cycle. Since gold and items were returned to the game, this would have disrupted the entire economy system. According to their statements, Jagex reacted immediately and was able to prevent greater damage. What many have built up over the years could have potentially been destroyed.
There seems to be more going on, community has a suspicion
Players report similar incidents: As read on Reddit, players believe they know who the fired employee is. One moderator repeatedly attracted negative attention from the community. Although there was no concrete evidence, much indicated that this person was involved in shady dealings, during which they apparently stole 100 billion coins worth over $100,000.
Several months ago, there was a theft of 45 billion coins that were lost by the player mazrim_lol. However, it was said at the time that he should have secured his account better. Interestingly, the person who is under suspicion has now also deleted their Twitter account.
What is Jagex’s next step? The company states that they have now also involved the police and filed a report. However, it is currently not allowed to talk further about the ongoing procedure.
Thus, developer studio Jagex continues to take the Runescape community seriously, even though they are already working on a new MMORPG. The connection to Runescape is also shown by the fact that a mobile version of the classic is currently in development.
