The big question “PS5 or Xbox Series X?” is moving to the next round. But even after the announcement of the hardware details, your favorite console is already clear.
This survey is about: Last Thursday, we asked you which console you will buy. The hardware details that were presented in the last days were taken into account.
So, we wanted to know from you what impact the hardware has on your purchase and whether there are differences now that these details are available.
You prefer the PS5 despite weaker hardware
Here are the results: A total of 5 options were available. Nearly 1000 participants took part. You voted as follows:
- PS5: 49%
- Xbox Series X: 35%
- Both: 5%
- None: 3%
- Still undecided: 8%
What does the survey say? We already had asked you the same question a few weeks ago. At that time, the hardware details were not yet known. Back then, nearly 54% voted for the PS5 and only about 30% for the new Xbox.
The hardware details seem to make a difference based on this data. However, there are no huge changes. The majority of fans still prefer the PS5.
Compared to our survey from August 19, 2019 the proportions have shifted even more in favor of Microsoft’s new console. Back then, 24% of you voted for the new Xbox. Thus, the Xbox has seen an overall increase of 11%. The PS5 had a larger lead at that time with 58% of all votes, which has now decreased.
| Survey | Xbox | PS5 |
| 19.08.2019 | 24% | 58% |
| 28.01.2020 | 29% | 54% |
| 23.03.2020 | 35% | 49% |
Keep in mind that the popularity of PlayStation, which surpassed Xbox for various reasons especially in the last generation, also impacts the survey. However, it is interesting that on MeinMMO at least this gap is smaller than last year.
What motivates you to buy a console? In our last survey we also explained exactly which reasons encourage you to buy. At the top were hardware strength (3rd place), backward compatibility (2nd place), and exclusive games (1st place).
We now know the hardware details. Regarding backward compatibility, Sony recently announced that around 100 older games will be available for the PS5 at launch. More games are expected to follow. An exclusive title for the PS5 is, for example, Godfall is already known.
For the Xbox Series X, some backward compatibility details are also known. The Microsoft console is expected to play old games from previous generations and even carry over save files. One game that will be a focus for the new Xbox, is Halo Infinite.
If there are any new announcements there, the current opinion could change significantly.
What do you think about the changes? Did you expect that the PS5 would still be so popular? Let us know in the comments.
