A total of 9 regional Pokémon can be caught during the Hoenn Tour in Pokémon GO. We summarize all the locations.
What are regional Pokémon? Regional Pokémon are monsters that can only be caught in Pokémon GO at specific locations around the world. Consequently, they are quite rare, as one usually has to travel far to obtain them – or hope for a trade or an event.
However, during the currently ongoing Hoenn Tour, there is the opportunity to obtain all regional Pokémon from the third generation of the game. At least theoretically – as it’s not that easy.
The 9 regional Pokémon during the Hoenn Tour – how to get them?
We show you the Pokémon and their locations during the Hoenn Tour.
Relicanth, Tropius and Qurtel – in 10 km eggs

How to find? Unfortunately, these three will not be found in the wild during the Hoenn Tour, as Niantic confirmed again on Twitter (via Twitter). However, you can find them in the 10 km eggs that you collect during the event.
You can obtain the eggs at PokéStops or gyms by spinning the photo disc, but you will need luck – as what kind of eggs you get is random.
However, all three are considered rare monsters, which might make the effort worthwhile.
- Relicanth can otherwise only be found in New Zealand and surrounding islands, but even there it is rare
- Tropius can otherwise be found in Africa, the Middle East, but also in the Canary Islands and in the southernmost part of Spain
- Qurtel is found in South Asia and India
Vipitis and Sengo – In the wild, Haunted Fog habitat

How to find? During the GO Tour Hoenn, you can find both in the “Haunted Fog” habitat, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the wild.
Sengo and Vipitis are normally counterparts in Pokémon GO, which cannot otherwise be found on the same continent.
- Sengo is usually found in Europe, Asia, Australasia
- Vipitis is found in North America, South America, and Africa
Illumise and Volbeat – Depending on Proto-Alarm in the wild
How to find? Both can be found in the wild, but it depends on which team is currently leading in the special research – Ruby or Sapphire. This is reassessed every hour.
- Illumise is available during “Proto-Alarm: Kyogre”, when Sapphire is in the lead
- Volbeat is available during “Proto-Alarm: Groudon”
Normally, Illumise can be found in North America, South America, and Africa. Volbeat is usually found in Europe, Asia, and Australasia.
Sonnfel and Lunastein – Depending on Proto-Alarm in the wild

With Sonnfel and Lunastein, the same applies as with Illumise and Volbeat: They appear when one of the two teams is in the lead.
- Lunastein spawns during Proto-Alarm Kyogre
- Sonnfel spawns during Proto-Alarm Groudon
Normally, Lunastein is found in North America, South America, and Africa. Sonnfel can usually be found in Europe, Asia, Australasia.
What else is coming for the Hoenn Tour? In addition to the regional Pokémon, numerous monsters from the 3rd generation are present in the game. There are rotating habitats, proto raids, and a special research around the legendary hunt for Kyogre and Groudon.
In addition, you can also purchase the research with Shiny Jirachi in the shop – though it’s really difficult and long.
