- You can obtain Proto Energy like this:
- Complete Proto Raids against Kyogre and Groudon. These are available during the worldwide Hoenn Tour.
- From research tasks for the Hoenn Tour.
- You can earn Proto Energy by walking with the respective Pokémon as a buddy if you have already performed the Protomorphosis. Trainers report gaining 100 Proto Energy per 20 km (via reddit)
- The proto form lasts for 8 hours after evolution
How much energy is needed? The first Protomorphosis costs 400 Proto Energy. After that, it should decrease the more you perform the Protomorphosis.
How much energy do Proto Raids bring? This varies depending on how quickly you complete the Proto Raids. Some trainers reported 80 energy per raid. However, one trainer also showed that around 100 Proto Energy is possible if the raid is completed in under 30 seconds (via reddit).
However, the raids are difficult to crack and require many trainers to be solved.
When do Proto Raids run? For now, it is only known that they will take place during the worldwide Hoenn Tour. Whether or when they will return is currently unknown.
What bonuses does the Protomorphosis bring? On one hand, the Protomorphosis strengthens Kyogre and Groudon, but both bring additional bonuses in their proto-form.

Are there more proto-forms? No, only Kyogre and Groudon can reach this form. In the background story of the main games, the two were constantly at war until Rayquaza intervened. However, that triggered a Mega Evolution to stop the two proto-monsters.
