In Pokémon GO the big Hoenn Tour is happening this weekend, but server issues are currently making it difficult for players to participate in the event. We at MeinMMO will show you what has happened.
What event is it about? One of the highlights in Pokémon GO is this year’s Hoenn Tour, which is currently taking place this weekend. However, despite the event being active for only a few hours, trainers are experiencing problems. We will show you what those are and what we know about them.

Problems interacting with gyms
What problems are those? As some trainers report on social networks, there are continuing issues in the game. In particular, when interacting with gyms to participate in the popular proto raids, difficulties are arising.
As reddit user Ballybomb_ writes (via reddit.com): “Proto raids cannot be entered in the UK. The screen freezes when trying to click on something.” He also shares a picture of his frozen game.
This is particularly frustrating, as for the first time, worldwide Proto-Kyogre and Proto-Groudon can be defeated in special raids to secure the coveted proto energy. You can read what the protomorphosis is all about in the following article:
Trainers find: “The game is completely unplayable”
Ballybomb_ is not alone with these issues, as other players also report that their game is sluggish, they are thrown out of raids, or they no longer see spawns. In some parts of the world, the game seems to be temporarily unplayable. You can read the following on reddit:
- denbo786: “The game is very sluggish here in Ireland.”
- WubbaLubbaSupSup: “Network issues also in Denmark.”
- LouisPitches97: “The game is completely unplayable here in Italy.”
- BroscaCadash: “No spawns here in Norway where I am. The previous hour was full of spawns around my house, but now, in a café with more than three PokéStops around me, there are none… Raids don’t work either, but PokéStops and gyms can still be spun.”
- K–Swizz: “Same in Saudi Arabia, where everyone got thrown out right in the middle of a raid.”
According to reports, there are also recurring issues in Germany, as user MGDuck reports (via reddit.com): “Game interruptions in Germany. I think if I can’t interact with gyms, it was a mistake to play today.”
What causes the difficulties? Why exactly the game errors occur is not officially known yet. Due to the number of players accessing Niantic’s servers simultaneously because of the event, it is assumed that they are overloaded, and that is why the problems are occurring.
