In Pokémon GO finds the big Hoenn Tour taking place this weekend, where new shinies must not be missing. We from MeinMMO show you which shiny monsters you can find in the game from then on and what your chances are for special encounters during the event.
What event is it about? On February 25 and 26, 2023, the big worldwide Hoenn Tour takes place in Pokémon GO . This not only brings you numerous spawns from Generation 3 of the games but also offers you the opportunity to catch all the monsters from the Hoenn region as shiny specimens for the first time.
For this reason, 14 monsters celebrate their shiny debut at this event. Which ones they are and how you can find them, we have summarized for you below. We will also tell you at the end of the article, what you need to know about the shiny rates.
All new shinies for the Hoenn Tour at a glance
If you are looking for shinies, you should not miss the Hoenn Tour. All Hoenn monsters that spawn in the wild during the event, hatch from eggs, or defend the arenas in raids can, with a bit of luck, also be caught as shiny. The following Pokémon can be encountered in their shiny form for the first time:
- Tuska (and its evolution Noktuska)
- Gehweiher (and its evolution Maskeregen)
- Schluppuck (and its evolution Schlukwech)
- Qurtel, Tropius, and Relicanth
- Kecleon
- Proto-Kyogre and Proto-Groudon
- Jirachi
- Icognito H
Where you can find these Pokémon during the event, we have summarized for you below. We based the order on the locations in the game.
Tuska and Noktuska
What kind of Pokémon are these? During the Hoenn Tour, you can only catch the grass Pokémon Tuska. To secure Noktuska as shiny, you can evolve it using 50 candies.
You can find Tuska at the following locations during the event:
- in the wild in the habitat “Glowing Sand”
- in 5-km eggs that you can spin at PokéStops during the event
Gehweiher and Maskeregen
What kind of Pokémon is this? The bug and water Pokémon Gehweiher from Generation 3 can also be caught as shiny for the first time during the event. Just like with Tuska, you need to evolve it to secure Maskeregen, the evolution of Gehweiher, as a shiny specimen. For this, you need 50 candies.
You can find Gehweiher at the following locations during the event:
- in the wild in the habitat “Eerie Mist”
- in 5-km eggs that you can spin at PokéStops during the event
Schluppuck and Schlukwech
What kind of Pokémon are these? Another shiny debut celebrates Schluppuck and Schlukwech. To secure it, you need to look for a blue Schluppuck during the event. You can then evolve this into Schlukwech using 50 candies. Schlukwech does not spawn in the game during the Hoenn Tour.
You can find Schluppuck at the following locations during the event:
- in the wild in the habitat “Green Earth”
- in 5-km eggs that you can spin at PokéStops during the event
Qurtel, Tropius, and Relicanth
What kind of Pokémon are these? Qurtel, Tropius, and Relicanth are three regional Pokémon from the Hoenn region that do not have pre- or evolutions. Normally, the three monsters can only be found in specific parts of the world.
For the Hoenn Tour, they are also available in their shiny forms in the game for the first time, so you should not miss them.
You can find Qurtel, Tropius, and Relicanth at the following locations during the event:
- in 10-km eggs that you can spin at PokéStops during the event
Here we show you which other regional Pokémon are in the game and where you can get them.
Kecleon
What kind of Pokémon is this? A monster that has only recently been found in the game is Kecleon. The small chameleon has no pre- or evolutions.
During the Hoenn Tour in Las Vegas, trainers were able to find shiny specimens with a bit of luck. For the worldwide Hoenn Tour, it is now available everywhere. Since it hides well, you should keep your eyes peeled for the little monster.
You can find Kecleon at the following locations during the event:
- Kecleon hides at PokéStops
Proto-Kyogre & Proto-Groudon
What kind of Pokémon are these? Proto-Kyogre and Proto-Groudon are not only available for the first time worldwide in their shiny forms, but the corresponding proto-raids were previously only available at the live event of the Hoenn Tour in Las Vegas. Both proto-Pokémon are among the best attackers of their kind, making them worthwhile.
To trigger an evolution yourself, you must first collect what is known as proto-energy in the corresponding raids. You can use this similarly to mega energy with Kyogre and Groudon. This way, after the raid, you will also only get an encounter with the normal forms of the two legendary monsters.
Even though the original shiny forms of Kyogre and Groudon have been in the game for some time, the new, special, temporary proto-evolutions differ visually significantly from the original shinies.
You can find Proto-Kyogre and Proto-Groudon at the following locations during the event:
- you can battle them in proto-raids and collect the corresponding proto-energy
We show you more strong attackers in Pokémon GO in the following video:
Jirachi
What kind of Pokémon is this? The mysterious wish Pokémon Jirachi also celebrates its shiny debut in the game. Unlike all other monsters of the event, you have a chance for a guaranteed encounter with a shiny specimen with Jirachi.
This is how you get shiny Jirachi during the event: To secure a shiny Jirachi, you can obtain the special research “Masterpiece Research: Fulfilled Wish” in the in-game shop. This is available there for around 5.99 euros and guarantees you an encounter with a shiny.
Icognito H
What kind of Pokémon is this? A monster that doesn’t belong to the Hoenn region but should not be missing at such an event is Icognito. The psychic Pokémon from Generation 2 likes to appear in its various forms on such occasions. The letter H will therefore play a role for the Hoenn Tour and is thus also expected to be caught for the first time in its shiny form.
This is how you get Icognito H during the event:
- Icognito H spawns from smoke (except from daily adventure smoke)
What are the shiny chances for the Hoenn Tour?
This is what you need to know: Niantic often increases the shiny chances during such an event. Thus, it is then more likely that you will encounter a shiny specimen. However, this year, it should be a bit different for the Hoenn Tour. In an interview with the online magazine Dot Esports, the developers stated:
Selected Pokémon will have the chance to receive a shiny boost. We want the encounter with a shiny Pokémon to be a surprise moment, so we can’t reveal any details here.
Increased chances of encountering shiny Pokémon were available for trainers who had a ticket for the live event in Las Vegas.

What does that mean for the shiny rate? Accordingly, there will not be a generally increased shiny rate during the global Hoenn Tour. This was therefore only available at the live event in Las Vegas. However, for individual monsters, it should still be more likely that you will encounter a shiny specimen during the weekend. Which ones are specifically involved is currently unknown and remains to be seen.
How do you like the new shinies in Pokémon GO? Will you try to secure them? And which shinies are still missing from the Hoenn region in your collection? Feel free to write it to us here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange with other trainers.
During the Hoenn Tour, you have the opportunity to choose between different categories. We show you the differences between Team Ruby and Team Sapphire.
