In Pokémon GO you will encounter Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y at the GO Fest. The battle will be intense. With the right counters, you have a better chance of winning.

When do the Mewtwo appear? Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will both appear at the GO Fest in Super Mega Raids – that is on Saturday and Sunday.

What is the difference? Both are absolute top monsters, but they differ in one detail:

• Mega Mewtwo X combines the two types Psychic and Fighting. If you defeat it at the Pokémon GO Fest in the Super Mega Raid, your caught Mewtwo will know the fast move “Counter”.
• Mega Mewtwo Y is a pure Psychic Pokémon. It will receive the charge move “Psychic Strike” if you catch Mewtwo after the Super Mega Raid against the Y variant.

What should you keep in mind? There are a few points to consider when catching Mega Mewtwo.

• Both cost an unusually high amount of Mega Energy for evolution.
• Samples caught at the GO Fest are immediately at least on Mega Level 1, with a chance of 2 or 3.
• The first Mega evolution of the samples from the GO Fest is free. 
• The Mega Energies for Mega Mewtwo X and Y are not the same, you collect independent energies for each.

This makes the raids difficult: Mega Mewtwo is not only extremely strong, but also has shields, as it appears in the Super Mega Raid. So you definitely need Mega evolutions to break these shields – and enough teammates.

Best counters against Mega Mewtwo X in the Super Mega Raid

How many trainers do I need: In the range of 8 to 10 trainers, the raid should be feasible. Absolute top counters and trainers can manage with less, but not much. Everything above that will be noticeably easier.

Type weaknesses Mega Mewtwo X: As a Fighting/Psychic Pokémon, Mega Mewtwo X is weak against the types Fairy, Flying, and Ghost. Thus, your best counters are the following monsters with corresponding move types:

• Necrozma Dawn Wings
• Zacian (Sword of the King)
• Rayquaza
• Yveltal
• Lunala
• Zapdos
• Monetigo
• Endynalos
• Giratina
• Galar Articuno
• Hoopa
• Cupidus
• Darkrai
• Skelabra

If available, the Shadow variants should be used.

Mega Pokémon against Mega Mewtwo X: Top counters in the area of Mega Pokémon are:

• Mega Rayquaza
• Mega Mewtwo X and Y
• Mega Gardevoir
• Mega Gengar
• Mega Salamence
• Mega Banette
