PS4 players of Borderlands 3 are facing a small dilemma. Do they want fancy graphics or a high frame rate?
There are only a few weeks left until the fans of the planet Pandora can finally dive into the new Borderlands 3. In the lead-up, more and more details about the game are being released, including some graphics settings and adjustments that players can make. This mainly concerns players on the PlayStation 4 Pro, as they have to make a difficult choice.
This selection will be available: In a conversation with the PlayStation Blog, Gearbox explained that there is a choice for players on the more powerful PS4 Pro, namely the choice between two different graphics settings:
- Best possible resolution (Favor Resolution)
- Best possible performance (Favor Performance)
This changes the representation of Borderlands 3 on the PS4 Pro drastically.
This is what “Favor Resolution” does: In this mode, Borderlands always tries to achieve the best possible resolution at the expense of performance. Positively, this means that the resolution can go up to 4K, allowing for sharp images. Negatively, it means that the frame rate is limited to a maximum of 30 frames per second.
This is what “Favor Performance” does: Those who opt for the best possible performance will experience a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second, resulting in a much smoother gameplay experience. However, this comes at the expense of resolution, which is then somewhat reduced. Graphical effects may not be as impressively sharp, but the chance of stuttering is low, even when a lot of action is on the screen.
Such graphics settings are rather unusual on consoles – normally, they are only found on PCs.
Whether such settings will also be available for the Xbox One X is not yet known, but it seems possible.
