“What a long, strange trip…” – with this achievement from World of Warcraft, the name says it all. Some players take 17 years to finally be able to soar into the skies on their reward.
What must one do for the achievement? Those who want to complete the achievement “What a long, strange trip…” in World of Warcraft need to finish the 8 meta-achievements of the biggest world events from Azeroth. However, this is not that easy:
- World events in Azeroth only happen once a year, for a limited time. Children’s Week, for example, takes place in the first week of May. If you miss the event, you have to wait a year.
- Each of the meta-achievements includes several achievements related to the corresponding event. Let’s stick with Children’s Week: If you want to complete the meta-achievement “A Heart for Children”, you have to finish 5 individual goals during the festivities.
The various world events have changed significantly over the many years since their introduction. Additionally, the selection of achievements that you must master for “What a long, strange trip…” has changed. Children’s Week was originally tied to PvP achievements that may have frustrated some non-PvP players to the brink of despair.
What awaits as a reward? Those who can complete all the event goals and meta-achievements of “What a long, strange trip…” will receive the reins of the violet proto-drake, a particularly impressive dragon mount. Proudly posing on the back of this flying mount is WoW player FackinNortyCake, who claims to have taken almost 17 years to complete the achievement.
In a comment under his post, FackinNortyCake explains that he has played WoW repeatedly over the years but never longer than 6 to 8 months at a stretch. At some point, he always feels a bit burned out and needs a break. As a result, he could only complete the event achievements scattered throughout the year gradually. Recently, he focused on the remaining Sunwalker achievements.
“Congratulations!!”
How does the community respond? Although the achievement is already many years old, many WoW players relate to FackinNortyCake’s long journey. This is evident from the over 1,300 upvotes and many of the over 70 comments.
- Lord-Momentor explains on Reddit: “This achievement is also a real curse for me. I only need the Christmas and Valentine’s Day achievements, but every year I tell myself: I’ll do it next year. And then the event takes place, but I’m always busy with something else or completely forget it until it’s almost the last day.”
- ryouuko remembers on Reddit: “Looking back, I can hardly believe I managed to get the PvP achievements for that. Congratulations!!”
- Comfortable-Ad-7030 writes on Reddit: “When Wrath of the Lich King came out, this seemed to be the easiest proto-drake to obtain for me. I set out to get it, and a year later, I succeeded. However, by that time, I had already gotten the blue one.”
- Mkebeerguy celebrates on Reddit as well: “I just finished this too, guys, what a relief.”
