A player bought a 3DS in poor condition at a flea market. But upon refurbishing, it turns out the 3DS is in better shape than expected.
Who is it about? The Reddit user septumfunk-com attended the Portland Retro Gaming Expo more than two years ago. This is an annual gaming fair that celebrates video games and gaming as part of pop culture, where gamers can also purchase games and hardware.
It was there that the gamer also found a red Nintendo 3DS from Japan. The condition was poor, as the stick was missing and the bottom screen had large scratches. However, for 50 US dollars (about 43 euros), he took the device and intended to repair it when possible, but what he then saw surprised him.
Better than expected
How did the repair go? While the player likely quickly replaced the missing stick after the purchase, he played for 2 years with the scratched screen. At work, he was just complaining about how annoying the operation was when he noticed something fall out.
At one edge of the screen, there was a small gap as big as a hair. This could only mean one thing: A protective film is on the screen. And that’s exactly how it was, and the player could simply remove the protective film, finding an as good as new screen underneath.
He believes that the seller at the flea market also didn’t know the device had such a screen protector. It stands to reason that the selling price would have been higher if they had known or that the film along with the scratches would have been removed before the sale.
