Over the weekend, players in Pokémon GO faced the Gigantamax bosses. These are powerful Pokémon with unique attacks that required trainers to come together in larger groups. However, many players had significant problems with the gigantic Pokémon.
What a challenge it was! From October 26 to 27, 2024, trainers could face the Gigantamax forms of Bulbasaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.
- These monsters were extremely strong and appeared in the energy sources.
- The Pokémon were supposed to be one of the most challenging challenges in the game so far.
- As a result, players could come together in groups of 40 trainers, split into teams of four, and then face the Gigantamax bosses.
However, for many trainers, the event did not go as they would have liked. Although some groups were likely completely filled, they failed to defeat the bosses.

Gigantamax bosses were unbeatable for many trainers in Pokémon GO
What was the problem? In the Reddit forum, players could provide their feedback on the event. The opinions about the event are mixed: Many players claim to have defeated the bosses. But there are also trainers who apparently couldn’t defeat the bosses even in groups with the maximum number of players.
Another major problem was that in small towns and villages, there were not enough players coming together to form an acceptable group size for the bosses. However, even with 40 people in Tokyo, it was sometimes not possible to defeat the bosses.
We have gathered some negative comments from Reddit that give an insight into the event:
- sts_ssp summarizes: “What a terrible event. I’m in Tokyo, so at least the Pokémon can be defeated (even though there’s no guarantee with 40 people).”
- CloudvAsm sees the problem with others: “I managed it in an overcrowded population center in Japan. It took 6 different groups to defeat a Charizard. […] Most people do not bring fully evolved Pokémon at level 40, so they get torn apart quickly.”
- NoTelevision6311 couldn’t even gather the 40 people: “I have never seen 40 people playing Pokémon GO in the same area since 2016. It sucks that I will miss these people 🙁 “
However, there are also trainers who had no problems with the Gigantamax bosses. User Fayrr states, for example, that in his community there are some hardcore players, and therefore they were able to defeat Blastoise with 24 players.
Overall, however, negative comments prevail, where players had issues defeating the Gigantamax bosses. Thus, the development team achieved its goal of creating one of the hardest challenges in Pokémon GO.
The captured Gigantamax bosses can be used as counters against other Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon. There will be plenty more of these in the future.
