The developers of Let It Die discuss the free-to-play model of the upcoming survival action MMO.

Let It Die will be a pure online game set in a post-apocalyptic environment. In addition to grim reapers on skateboards, you will have to face nasty opponents in a brutal, hostile world. The game has so far been compared by some English-speaking media, who have had their hands on an early demo version, to the successful series Dark Souls – skateboards aside.

When asked whether these similarities with From Software’s games are intentional, the CEO of Grasshopper Manufacture, Suda51, did not provide a concrete answer. He did not say “no,” but also not “yes.” However, such comparisons can generally be seen as very positive and as a quality feature: After all, Dark Souls enjoys great popularity among fans.

Nonetheless, there is also skepticism towards this title: Let It Die will be free-to-play. What balance will the developers find between pay-to-win and the possibility of earning progress by playing? It is clear that one will have to invest either money or time. But how far apart will the margins be?

Free-to-Play does not mean Pay-to-Win in Let It Die

According to Suda51, the development team is aware of the players’ concerns, which is why they want to handle it sensitively. He admits: They would create a game in which players can invest money – if they want to. However, they primarily want to develop a game that is free and still comes across as a AAA title for 60 US dollars. Players should not confuse free-to-play with pay-to-win.

Sudo51 does not go into detail about how they will ultimately monetize their efforts. After all, something is rarely given for free. It remains to be seen how the relationship between money and invested time will turn out.

Let It Die will be released in 2016 for the Playstation 4.

Twitch has published some interesting statistics on streamed games and their viewers. Which games dominate the platform?

LOL, CS:GO, DOTA 2, and Hearthstone dominate Twitch

Overall, these 4 titles account for 65% of the viewers who regularly visit Twitch.

While there are occasionally other games that appear briefly in the top 10, these regularly compete for positions 5-10. In April, games like “The Division” and “Dark Souls 3” appeared, but who doesn’t enjoy watching others struggle?

The “big 4” are more or less set in stone, although Hearthstone briefly secured 3rd place last year, quickly falling behind Dota 2 again.

In Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, there is information about the campaign and battles in a space setting.

The upcoming Call of Duty has not made a dream start with the reveal trailer. Already after a few days, it became the trailer with the most dislikes on YouTube. The space setting has met with discontent among fans, claiming the CoD series is turning too much into a science fiction shooter.

Aside from the trailer, not much is known about Infinite Warfare at the moment. Future information may shed more light on the matter and calm the fans’ concerns. More hints have been revealed by the narrative director of Infinity Ward, Taylor Kurosaki, in a conversation with Forbes.

Infinite Warfare tells a highly realistic, plausible war story in the future

According to Kurosaki, the upcoming Call of Duty will tell a realistic and plausible story of war that could take place in a near-future scenario. It is inevitable that space will be militarized, which is why he does not want to label Infinite Warfare as science fiction or a sci-fi game.

Primarily, Infinite Warfare is a “Call of Duty” game, which means infantry combat and control over vehicles. The space setting will simply expand this and open new possibilities for the game.

Campaign fights against The Settlement Defense Front

In Infinite Warfare, players face off against The Settlement Defense Front, abbreviated as SDF. This is a rebel group that has turned away from the “United Nations Space Alliance.” However, they are not freedom fighters aiming for “the good” in the world, but nasty opponents who are marked by the harshness of space. The campaign will ultimately take players on the journey of Captain Reyes, who must make difficult decisions to save the Earth’s population.

Thus, the single-player campaign will remain a pure single-player experience. There will be no co-op mode. The developers state that players will feel closely connected with the character Captain Reyes. For co-op fun, other modes will be available, such as the zombie mode.

With the Jackal, you will conduct fights in the air and in space

During the campaign, players will have to engage in various types of aerial combat: A fighter jet, referred to by Infinity Ward as the Jackal, will be available for this purpose. You will have to conduct battles in open space with complete freedom of movement, but also “on-rails” fights: Here, your Jackal moves as if on rails.

With this ship, you can seamlessly transition into space. There will apparently be no loading times. There, you will also encounter dangers that can be optionally fought: You decide whether to undertake these missions or not. The Jackal is not just intended for combat, but also serves as a transport vehicle with which you can move around in the space setting of Infinite Warfare.

Fights in Zero Gravity

In Infinite Warfare, there will be “fast and thrilling” battles in zero gravity. For this purpose, soldiers will have several gadgets at their disposal, such as a grappling hook or magnetic boots. With the latter, you can move along surfaces, hang on walls, and cling to the ceiling. This allows you to shoot headfirst at unsuspecting enemies.

As with almost every Call of Duty, the developers worked with various experts to make the game as realistic as possible. According to Kurosaki, they spoke a lot with people from the military and the “space industry.”
