Little Cat, Big Joy
That’s why the Alfiq Khajiit are the highlights of Elsweyr: One of the 17 Khajiit subspecies is the so-called “Alfiq.” These are essentially house-cat-sized Khajiit that also look like regular cats. Except they wear clothes, speak, and are blessed with great magical talent.
Therefore, I was really curious when Elsweyr finally went live, and I could play it. I didn’t want to see a Necromancer, and the dragons didn’t matter to me at first. I wanted to meet an Alfiq! After all, they are spell-casting, talking, and wonderfully fluffy cats!
So I met my first Alfiq: In fact, you encounter Alfiq earlier in Elsweyr than dragons. Because already in the first quest of the main story, I met an Alfiq mage who seriously explained to me that a strong magical discharge supposedly killed an unfortunate monster that is lying there.

I could not follow her explanations with the best of my will because it was an adorable little cat with a tiara, giving me a lecture in an extremely sweet, squeaky voice. All the time I thought, “sooo cute, sooooo fluffy! I want to hug you, you sweet kitty!”
That was my absolute Alfiq highlight: My first Alfiq encounter was already cool, but it got even better. In a quest at the notorious outlaws’ hideout “The Stitches,” you must help a disgraced Khajiit thief to steal the treasure of the current leader of the Stitches.
In a typical “heist movie” quest, you are first to assemble a team of quirky experts. You need to recruit an old battle monk, a wood elf technician, and finally a mage named Seyrene.
Seyrene has a bit of a drinking problem …
When I went to look for the mage, I couldn’t find her anywhere. Instead, I heard an almost adorable snoring sound. After some searching, I found the source of the noises. A sleeping cat in robes surrounded by empty wine bottles.
Apparently, she had a few too many glasses, and the only way to wake her up is with a bucket of foul-smelling water. From there, a lengthy word battle begins with a still very intoxicated house cat, who sways around during the conversation.
This doesn’t get any better over the course of the quest, and among other things
Seyrene falls asleep in the middle of the planning,
foretells terrible deaths if we fail at certain things,
and loudly vomits in front of her paws during a complicated summoning.
As disgusting as that sounds, Seyrene is still cute, if only because of her adorable voice.
The quest has, of course, some highlights with the other three NPCs on the team, but the perpetually drunk, cynical, and yet adorable house cat mage is by far the highlight. You can see the beginning of the quest here in our video of an Elsweyr stream on MAX.

Since then, I have been eagerly searching Elsweyr for even more cool Alfiq Khajiit and hope that Zenimax will let this subspecies appear more often in upcoming DLCs and expansions.
Big Cats Are Cool Too
These Khajiit subspecies are also cool: The Alfiq are, in my opinion, the coolest Khajiit in Elsweyr, but the other variants are also nice to look at. For example, you finally encounter the feared Senche-rath. These “battle cats” are the largest Khajiit and resemble a mix of a saber-toothed tiger and a gorilla. Only bigger!
Even a mighty Senche-rath relaxes in the evening with a pipe and a good book.
These creatures can also speak and serve as voluntary mounts for Khajiit warriors. You can even discuss with a Senche-rath in the game. This love for detail and loyalty to Elder Scrolls lore is one of the main reasons why I appreciate ESO so much.

In the State of the Game on May 29th, the focus was primarily on the AI issues that many players in The Division 2 are currently facing. This is intended to be fixed in Title Update 3.1, which is set to be released next week. We summarize the most important information for you.

Bronze or Silver TOTW cards can also be found in the respective Bronze and Silver sets.
However, caution is advised here, as drawing TOTW cards from packs is not that easy and requires a lot of luck. So it is best not to invest too many coins in packs.

Our author Irie had the chance to play the two new jobs Dancer and Gunbreaker from Final Fantasy XIV during the Shadowbringers Media Tour in London.
With the release of the Shadowbringers expansion on July 2nd, the MMORPG from Square Enix will not only receive a lot of content but also two new jobs: the Dancer and the Gunbreaker.
In this article, you will find my impressions of both. First, I will discuss the gameplay feel of both jobs, and then their exact functions and showcase their abilities. To our interview with Director Yoshida, click here:
How does Gunbreaker feel?Gunbreaker is the new tank job that will be playable with the release of Shadowbringers. It uses a Gunblade as a weapon and is based on the character Squall Lionheart from FFVIII.
Similar to the other tank jobs, it uses abilities that are chained together in combat to form combos. Skills create an interesting rhythm of combos that vary in length and complexity depending on the situation.
It was somewhat of an adjustment to get used to since the combos of jobs in FFXIV are usually always the same length. However, it is a nice change and gives the Gunbreaker a distinct identity.
On the buff side, the Gunbreaker does not offer particularly standout skills after the balancing of tanks in Shadowbringers.
Like the other tanks, it provides sufficient defensive buffs to survive heavy tank busters, a shield for the group, and has a strong regeneration cooldown.
Is Gunbreaker fun? If you enjoy playing tanks, then definitely try this job. I found the Gunbreaker quite stylish. Its animations are faster than those of the other tanks, and it feels more dynamic.
I can also say that I found the combo flow of the job quite interesting because it has many abilities that you weave between combos and juggle with. Once I finish leveling my main jobs, I will definitely push Gunbreaker to level 80.
I would place it a bit higher in terms of complexity. It is definitely more complex than, for example, the Paladin. New tank players might have difficulties with the combo flow, especially since the job starts directly at level 60 and you cannot gradually ease into it.
At this point, it is still not possible to determine how strong or weak Gunbreaker is compared to other tanks.
This is how Gunbreaker works – Exact Info: The function of the new tank is based on its resource “Cartridge” and the ability “Gnashing Fang”. I have created an infographic for the job that you can find further down. It aims to facilitate understanding of the job’s basic mechanics: Click here for the infographic.
Upon completing each basic 3-step combo, you gain a cartridge charge. The base combo is displayed in the infographic above in the green box.
This charge can now be used for three different abilities that determine how the combo continues.
Fated Circle (area attack) and Burst Strike (single target) are both strong finishing attacks. They consume one cartridge charge each and can be used situationally depending on whether you are fighting one enemy or many.
Gnashing Fang, on the other hand, is an off-global cooldown with a cooldown of about 33 seconds that extends the original 3-step combo of Solid Barrel.
If you decide to spend your cartridge for Gnashing Fang, it will turn a 3-step combo into a 6-step combo, as shown in the infographic.
Gunbreaker resource bar allows you to collect up to two cartridge charges.
However, because Gnashing Fang has a cooldown of about 33 seconds, it cannot be used in every combo:
You use your cartridge charges in combat for Gnashing Fang
Execute the entire 6-step combo
Until the cooldown of Gnashing Fang is finished, you use the cartridges either for Fated Circle or Burst Strike
This is how the continuation skills work: Gnashing Fang and its combo skills have another function. They grant status effects, which allow you to use the skill “Continuation”. Depending on the status effect, Continuation becomes a different skill:
Gnashing Fang grants “Ready to Rip” -> enables Jugular Rip
Savage Claw grants “Ready to Tear” -> enables Abdoment Tear
Wicked Talon grants “Ready to Gouge” -> enables Eye Gouge
These are cooldowns that are always woven between the skills of the combo, as shown in the infographic in the blue box on the left. With Eye Gouge, the entire combo ends.
Overall, his toolkit is very balanced. He has everything to be a solid tank:
A ranged attack
A gap-closer to get close to an enemy
A DoT attack
An AOE, in addition to the cartridge ability Fated Circle

How does the Dancer feel?Dancer is the second new job being released with Shadowbringers. It is a physical ranged DPS that uses chakrams and other throwing weapons.
The abilities of the Dancer are based on procs, i.e. random triggers that allow it to use additional abilities in combat. As a result, there is no fixed rotation while playing; you have to constantly react to which abilities are active and need to be used.
It might be a bit hectic for beginners, but experienced ranged DPS players won’t have much trouble with it.
Since almost all abilities of the Dancer are in some way connected to its three core mechanics, outside of that it only has a few buffs. Apart from the dance, in terms of group buffs, it doesn’t differ much from the other two physical ranged DPS.
Is the Dancer fun? I know that half of the community seems excited to play the Dancer, and I think people won’t be disappointed.
While the basic combo of the job is quite simple, the random triggering of additional abilities and the feathers provide variation in combat.
Dancer is definitely on my list of jobs that I want to level to at least 80. It has the potential to become my main job and displace Bard, but I would need to play it much longer to decide.
However, I would also say that the Dancer job is a bit harder to handle. On the one hand, you have three resource bars to keep an eye on and on the other hand, randomly triggered skills that require quick reactions. I can imagine that this might be too much for some at least at the beginning.
I would therefore recommend: Take your time to set up your hotbars for the Dancer so that you can comfortably reach all abilities, practice the steps, and you will have fun.

The essence of the Dancer consists of three mechanics displayed on the job’s resource bar:
The Dance
The Feathers
The Esprit Display
These three core elements are intertwined, and the Dancer’s damage depends on how well the player can manage these three resources.

Similar to other physical ranged characters in FFXIV, many of the Dancer’s abilities are based on procs, meaning it’s random whether you can use them or not. The basic combo includes two skills each for single-target and area attacks:
Cascade -> Fountain
Windmill -> Bladeshower
These have specific probabilities of activating further, stronger abilities, which must then be used as soon as possible. This creates a flow of the basic combos, into which further randomly triggered abilities flow.
At this point, the first mechanic of the Dancer comes into play: The stronger versions of the combo abilities can also generate a feather, as illustrated by the arrows in the infographic.
These feathers are necessary to execute the abilities Fan Dance I and II, which can be woven between the combo attacks to deal higher damage.
They can also trigger another skill, namely Fan Dance III. This therefore creates a rhythm:
You execute a basic combo until a proc occurs and you can use a stronger ability
If you receive an additional feather from this, you weave Fan Dance I or II between the attacks of the normal combo
If using Fan Dance I or II also triggers Fan Dance III, it can also be woven between the combo attacks
This is how the dances work: Now there are also the two dances: Standard Step and Technical Step. They form the second mechanic of the job. The steps buff the Dancer and either their dance partner or the entire group, depending on which step is used.
Let’s say the player decided to perform the Standard Step. They first choose a dance partner from the group who will receive buffs from the Dancer.
Once the Dancer performs the Standard Step, they are shown on the resource bar what steps they need to perform.
These steps are always random, and you have a short time to press the correct keys.
During this time, you cannot use any other abilities other than the dance steps and the dance finisher
Depending on how many dance steps were executed correctly, the strength of the dance finisher changes.
Once the finisher is executed, the dance timer on the resource display starts ticking. It shows you how long you will still have the dance buff.
At this point, the combat flow looks like this:
Before starting, you perform a dance to buff yourself and the group or your dance partner
After that, you rotate your normal combos,
Insert procs and oGCDs between when they occur
Shortly before the timer runs out, you dance again to refresh the buff
The dances also have an additional effect. As long as the dance buff is active, you accumulate “Esprit points” through your own attacks and the attacks of your dance partner.
Once you have gathered enough of them, you can use the strong AOE attack Devilment.

So be careful when you want to collect the byte and explore the area beforehand. It also helps not to rush to the byte at the beginning of the game but to wait and visit the Fortbyte location later in the game.

During the Shadowbringers press tour in London, we had the opportunity, together with other media, to ask some questions to the head of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida.
Shadowbringers, the new expansion of Final Fantasy XIV, is already set to release on July 2nd, and Square Enix is continuously revealing more new information about the addon.
The director and producer of FFXIV, Naoki Yoshida, answered some questions during his press tour in London. This interview was conducted with various media partners.

The NPCs should feel alive
The Trust system is a new feature that will come with Shadowbringers to Final Fantasy XIV. It aims to allow players to enter dungeons together with familiar NPCs from the story.
The system contrasts with the usual group play of MMORPGs, as the NPCs replace other players in group content. This is an unusual feature for a multiplayer game. Together with other media, we asked him some questions about it.
Question: What is the behavior of the NPCs in the Trust system in the dungeons? Do they adapt to the player’s style or follow a fixed AI?
Naoki Yoshida: When you are in different dungeons, there are also randomly generated elements and mechanics. For example, one of the boss enemies can use an area attack, and sometimes it may target the player’s character, while other times it may target one of the NPCs. It can also happen that the same NPC is targeted twice. So there are different situations even within a dungeon.
The AI of the Trust NPCs is designed to assess what the most effective reaction in the given situation is while also emphasizing the character of the NPCs. This is the fundamental design of the AI.
The hidden part of this AI is that it recognizes early on which monsters are more problematic and will try to deal with these monsters first. However, the monster could also use a very fast AOE attack, and the NPCs will know where it will land.
When certain bosses use their strong attacks, it can happen that it covers larger areas of the battle field. The AI will then recognize where the NPCs need to go to avoid this attack.
Thanks to the Trust system, you will be able to fight alongside NPC characters in dungeons
For example, there are four safe areas in which one can stand. The AI will recognize which area the NPC needs to go to be as close to the boss as possible and to deal damage efficiently.
So if you are unsure what to do with a mechanic in a dungeon and need to run away, you can follow the NPCs.
And to come back to it: Each NPC has its own characteristics. They stay true to their backstory.
If the player takes the NPC Alisaie into a dungeon, for example, she will try to take down the enemies as quickly as possible. She wants to be useful and help the Warrior of Light. She attacks very aggressively. Her priority is therefore attack, attack, attack. When the limit gauge is full, she will be the first to use it.
Minfilia is still a child in Shadowbringers and does not have as much battle experience as the other NPC characters
Another character, however, is Minfilia. She is very young and not very experienced in combat yet. You will observe in the dungeon how she initially struggles to choose the right target. Therefore, there are these different behavior patterns for each character that you take into your group.
I think that when playing, Alisaie will probably be the first to run and attack. And since she is aggressive, she wants to attack for as long as possible and could accidentally be caught by an area attack. And if she suddenly falls, her brother Alphinaud will quickly come to revive her.
So if you are familiar with the story of FFXIV, you can observe how these characters come to life in the dungeons.
The future of the Trust system depends on player feedback
Question: Can you give us more insight into the future development of the Trust system? Will players only be able to fight alongside NPCs in dungeons or will it be possible to build some sort of “relationship” with the individual NPCs in the future, providing more story or information about their characters?
Naoki Yoshida: Regarding the future development of the Trust system: I think it is a very new idea that we want to bring into the game. We understand that FFXIV is an MMORPG, and yet we have a system that tells players, “Hey, you can also complete this content alone!” So it is almost contradictory to what an MMORPG is.
But precisely for that reason, we want to see how the system feels for our players. We want to see player feedback, the reactions, let us know if you like this system and would like to see more of it.
Or if you feel that what we have is already enough. We want to assess how the system is received by players and base our next steps on that.
As for the different NPCs you can interact with, we primarily want players to learn about their backstories through the main scenario quests.
Yoshida suspects that the NPC Estinien is in high demand by fans for the Trust system
Especially regarding the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. We will portray the emotions and feelings they experience throughout the story, why they fight, what their mission is, etc. And that will be handled through the story.
Here is new information we have not released until now: We said that you can take these characters into the dungeons of Shadowbringers.
However, once you have completed all the main scenario quests and reached level 80, there is initially no further story, as Shadowbringers will be completed for the time being.
Let’s assume, theoretically, that for story reasons, for example, Y’shtola would need to go somewhere at the end of Shadowbringers. It would therefore be strange if you entered other content with the Trust NPCs and Y’shtola suddenly returned to the party.
Instead, when reaching level 80 at the end of the main scenario of Shadowbringers, you will receive a sort of “copy” of each of the individual Trust NPCs.
I am sure players will enter the dungeons with different jobs to level them. Therefore, you will receive these crystals, which contain a copy of Y’shtola or Thancred.

And you can then summon their energy so that they can continue to fight alongside you in certain content. This system is activated once you reach level 80.
And these crystals containing a copy of the NPCs will also need to be leveled. When you receive them, they will start at level 70. This way, you will have the opportunity to let your Y’shtola or Thancred grow.
It is of course very practical to take these NPCs with you when you are advancing through the main scenario, and it is fun to play the content together with the characters. But if we think about how we might develop it further, I think we must first evaluate player reactions.

Therefore, I hope that many players will take the chance to play with this Trust system and give us their feedback. We already suspect that many people will ask for the NPC Estinien (laughs).
A story where not everything is black and white
Especially the content of the story of Shadowbringers should be accessible to FFXIV players. That is why the Trust system will be implemented first in the story and level dungeons of the addon.
Question: There is a huge amount of content coming with Shadowbringers. I wonder if there is a specific element or feature that you are most proud of.
Naoki Yoshida: If I had to choose one element for Shadowbringers, it would be the story. I am still reviewing the script or the scenario, even in my hotel room here in London. I am very picky. Because I want the quality of the story to be as high as possible, it will be refined until the last minute.
As with any story, there are certainly differences in taste and opinions. Some people like a certain style and others do not. But I believe that the story of Shadowbringers is so far the best of FFXIV. It is very good.
I hope, therefore, that even people who have never played FFXIV will try it and dive into the story.
We felt that there is this fixed idea of “light = good” and “darkness = evil”. And what is interesting about Shadowbringers is that there is this extremely strong power of light. The flood of light is crashing in to destroy the world, and the player is trying to bring back the darkness of night into this world.
The enemies this time are grotesque creatures of light, led by Innocence
Of course, you will encounter characters who stand on the dark side but are still not evil. Therefore, we try not to portray it as if A is right and B is wrong. It is not all black and white.
We wanted to convey in the story that it is not good if one side becomes too strong and that there is a balance that is necessary. That is the plot of the story, and we want players to take a look at it.
The 14 mirror worlds and how they affect the story
Question: In Shadowbringers, we will travel to another world, which is in a way a copy of our world. Will there be a meeting with “former friends and comrades” that we may have to fight?
Naoki Yoshida: To give you some background on these different worlds that exist in the universe. I am sure you will see this in the main scenario as well, but there are 14 different “mirror worlds”, so to speak.
There was a significant event 10,000 years ago, and the world was split into 14 different shards. The world in which we have gone on adventures until now is called “The Source”, or the source of the shards. And we will travel through a rift into the world directly next to it, which is called “The First”.
Familiar NPCs and old friends will accompany the player character into the new world “The First”. But are they really themselves?
When the world was divided into 14 different copies, they were initially identical. There was the Source and then 13 of its shards. Now that 10,000 years have passed, each of these shards has gone through its own 10,000 years of history.
Let’s say that when the world was split up, there was a Yoshida in each of those 14 worlds; they were initially exact copies. However, it may have happened that he met different people in different worlds or performed different actions in varying situations.
As a result, the shards are now beginning to develop their own individual stories, and each shard is taking its own direction. There is now an initiative to reunite these shards so that they can become a single world again.
Some new areas will be familiar to FFXIV players. There is also a Crystal Tower on The First
And it has been noticed that The First is just about to be destroyed by this flood of light. Therefore, our heroes must intervene and save this world.
And players will notice: Yes, it is quite similar, and yet there are some areas where you think, “Oh, this is quite different.” I think that makes it very interesting.
It is fascinating. If players know a lot about the lore and history of the current world and then go into the world of The First and discover all the new elements, they will find many Easter eggs that will make them laugh.
In Eulmore, one of the two new cities from Shadowbringers, decadence reigns
Question: In the future, after the current expansion, will it be possible to travel to other shards as well?
Naoki Yoshida: Unfortunately, 7 of the 13 copies of the Source have been destroyed over the course of 10,000 years. Our next adventure takes us to The First, but there is also the “Thirteenth”, the thirteenth shard. We also call it the void. It has been completely swallowed by darkness.
So there are still some shards that exist. It is therefore possible. Perhaps, possibly, if we travel to one of these shards, we will see a Mako Reactor or the city of Midgar (FFVII).

A Finnish company has set out to combat plastic waste production. Their goal is unusual: headphones made from biodegradable materials and bio-plastics.
What kind of headphones are these? The company Aivan from Finland recently presented the concept headphone “Korvaa”. The headphone is intended to consist of various materials such as:
artificial spider silk
bioplastics
proteins produced by fungi
The idea behind the headphones is to combat the increasing amount of plastic waste in the world. Headphones of all kinds seem to be becoming an ever-greater problem, especially due to the growing demand for mobile devices, which could represent the future of gaming.
How does it work? The parts are not simply built from fungi, but it seems they are more or less cultivated. The headband is 3D printed from bioplastics. The material for printing is obtained from yeast.
The shells are made of cellulose and hydrophin. Hydrophin is a type of foam produced by certain fungi. This is covered by a mycelium that is supposed to feel like leather on the ears.
The material that later covers the speakers is supposed to be made from artificial spider silk produced by microbes.
Functionally, the headphones are currently not usable yet. The electronics are missing. What Aivan has currently presented with Korvaa is just a prototype that is intended to demonstrate the practical utility of bio-plastics.
Does this have a practical use? Currently, it is difficult to predict whether and how useful bio-headphones will be. Questions about stability and, by nature of the product, durability are in the air.
However, the success of Korvaa could pave the way for further products. If headphones can be cultivated from fungi, then perhaps the step to gaming headsets (for example, for battle royale) may not be far off.
Sound is, after all, also important in gaming, both for ambiance and for competitive play to hear opponents. If Korvaa is successful, there will likely be a demand for gaming equipment as well.

When will the headphones be released? So far, no date for the release has been announced. However, the manufacturers needed according to PCWelt already half a year to even obtain the materials.

To Fortnite: A patch for update 9.10 has been released. In it, you get the new salvo submachine gun and have to give up an old SMG.

Weapon changes – Silenced SMG: The silenced submachine gun is back out of the game and is moving into the vault. The new SMG thus replaces this SMG classic.
