At BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard announced a new project in the Diablo universe. Diablo Immortal will be an action RPG for on-the-go: a mobile game for iOS and Android. This announcement gave Diablo the most important slot in the BlizzCon 2018 presentation.
Diablo anywhere and everywhere: Diablo Immortal will be a game for smartphones that you can play on the go. It aims to provide the full Diablo experience and allow you to play together with friends.
Diablo as Mobile Multiplayer – Gameplay and Features
You can play these classes: The classes in Diablo Immortal represent a cross-section from all parts of the series. You have access to six different classes:
- Barbarian
- Crusader
- Demon Hunter
- Necromancer
- Sorceress
- Monk
The classes have familiar and new abilities, some of which were created specifically for Diablo Immortal. Each class has at least 12 abilities and can have 5 of them actively equipped.
The developers have also hinted that more classes will be added in the future. A mention of a Witch Doctor as a potential class has already been made.
Shared Zones: While you are in the open world of Diablo Immortal, you can encounter all sorts of monsters. Among them are powerful opponents that you may not be able to defeat alone.
According to the information from BlizzCon 2018, you have the option to play together with others. The eight unique outdoor zones are “shared content,” where other players can just show up to help you and embark on adventures with you.
Dungeons for Groups: In addition to the “outdoor content,” there are seven dungeons that must not be missing in any Diablo game. However, dungeons in Diablo Immortal are designed differently.
In the dungeons of Diablo Immortal, you play with three friends and are in an instanced zone. This dungeon is then exclusively for your group.
Unlike in the open world, monsters do not respawn in dungeons. They remain dead once you have defeated them, which gives you more tactical options and is likely to make boss fights more intense.
A New Enemy – Skarn, Herald of Terror: The antagonist in Diablo Immortal will not be one of the known evils, but Skarn, the Herald of Terror.
Skarn attempts to collect the fragments of the corrupted Worldstone that Tyrael previously destroyed with his blade El’druin. He aims to resurrect Diablo through the fragments and continue the Eternal Conflict.
A Capital – Westmark: In Diablo Immortal, there will be a capital where you can meet with other players. Instead of being divided into different acts, you will meet centrally in Westmark.
In Westmark, you have access to your stash, can trade with NPCs, and find other players with whom you can explore the world and fight evil.
Contact with Battle.net: While playing Diablo Immortal, you are also connected to Battle.net if you link your account. This allows you to chat with players from your contact list.
When is Diablo Immortal coming out? An exact date has not been announced yet. However, pre-registration is already ongoing via the official website, where you have the chance to be invited to the beta test.
What about Diablo 4? A question arose whether the development of Diablo Immortal affects the development of a potential Diablo 4, as hopes for it were already dispelled beforehand.
However, the developers did not give a precise answer, only that work is being done on several projects.
The reactions to Diablo Immortal are predominantly negative. A fan even asked if this was an April Fool’s joke and received applause for it.
