In the past, there were loot legends in WoW Classic. Nowadays, people would easily see through such things – or would they? Players are creative and create new myths.
About 15 years ago, when World of Warcraft was still in its “Vanilla” version and was practically in its infancy, there were many mysteries in the game. When players couldn’t explain something, they simply invented rumors that quickly spread through “hearsay.” Back then, people thought:

Such and other rumors were plentiful back then. Now players just invented a new rumor – and are surprised that it works.
What’s it about? It’s about the item “Wild Gladiator Chain.” It’s an epic item with an extremely low drop chance in Blackrock Depths. It drops only 7% of the time from the boss Gorosh the Dervish – who, in turn, also has a low chance of spawning in the arena event. So, two low probabilities must occur simultaneously.
During the Harvest Festival, however, there is still an Ancestor in the arena from whom one can obtain a Moon Festival coin. The Ancestor is illuminated by a moonlight shining down on him. The “new legend” says: If you kill Gorosh in exactly this light, the Wild Gladiator Chain will definitely drop.
Players post tons of evidence: Since a player started this, there have been almost daily posts on Reddit with groups that have tried this tactic and apparently succeeded. Again and again, screenshots are shown of groups that are surprised that the Wild Gladiator Chain actually drops when Gorosh dies in the moonlight.
Is there any truth to this? No, there isn’t. For every “proof photo,” there are numerous posts by players stating that it didn’t work. But that’s somewhat the beauty of all the loot legends of Classic. They don’t have to be true; you just have to believe in them.
The Division 2 and its players are preparing for a major overhaul of the equipment. Here are a few tips on how to optimally prepare for Gear 2.0.
What is Gear 2.0? Since the “State of the Game” on January 15, it is clear: The Division 2 is completely revamping its equipment system. Talents, attributes, skill power, everything is under scrutiny, and the equipment level will also be increased.

Tips for looting until Gear 2.0
You can continue to engage in your activities and play what you like. But if you are already there, shift your priorities a bit and keep more of certain specific equipment.
Keep many backpacks and vests – Only these types of armor will have talents. All other, smaller pieces will only come with attributes.
Bunker components from all brands – The brand sets will also be completely overhauled, and it’s worthwhile to have something from each brand.
Collect everything named equipment – The named talents will mostly disappear. Special items will allow for “super god rolls” that have values higher than the normal max values for an attribute. Check regularly with Cassie, as there’s new named equipment with each reset.
Acquire exotic equipment – With a new equipment level, it will be necessary to upgrade your exotics to the new level to utilize their full strength. Gather many exotics to have enough exotic components for that.
Farm high attribute values – “Patrick Wolf” assumes that values like shield damage, fire damage, or hazard protection will be heavily nerfed with Gear 2.0. If you have high values here, you’ll start off with an advantage in your attribute library.
Bonus: Hardcore mode – “Patrick Wolf” also has a tip here. The brand “Badger Tuff” could work very well in hardcore mode with the new system. He expects a strong buff for this armor brand.
Sell or dismantle the equipment you have only kept to eventually use the good roll.
Stuff your chests and characters full of high values and keep your top rolls. So far, the developers have not said whether the attribute library works across characters.
Collect as many good values as possible now, so you can later immediately put them into the new attribute library.
Crafting and recalibrating
So far, we do not know what it will cost to load the attributes into the library. However, since the new system brings more advantages than the old one, the developers have hinted that recalibration will become more expensive. So keep your credits and resources together.
Gather materials for recalibrating and crafting – If you regularly recalibrate and tweak your builds, recalibrating and crafting can already be quite expensive. Gather everything up to the cap if possible, then you will be well prepared.
Acquire blueprints – If you are missing any blueprints, use the time until the transition to track down the rest. Since TU6, you can see the missing blueprints at the workbench and even get a hint about where to find them.
Hard Wired – Since the gear sets could be very strong with the transition, “Patrick Wolf” recommends collecting as many “Hard Wired components” as possible. This way, you can quickly create a really strong gear set build at the new equipment level.
Upgrade the workbench – If you have not yet used crafting or have a second character with an unupgraded workbench, bring the crafting workshop to its highest level. It will otherwise be very expensive if you want to use it spontaneously.
With a cupboard full of blueprints and resources, you can immediately craft items with maximum values as soon as the new equipment level is unlocked and set about thwarting the latest plans of the rogues.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Season 1 is coming to an end, and Season 2 is just around the corner. But can you still get the Battle Pass weapons after the season ends? And if so, how? Here’s what we know so far.
When does the new season start? On February 11, Season 1 of Modern Warfare ends, and the start of Season 2 will likely follow smoothly. Then the Season 1 Battle Pass along with its contents will disappear, making way for the new Season 2 Battle Pass.
This is what many players are wondering: The Season 1 Battle Pass introduced 2 new base weapons into the game, the RAM-7 and the Holger-26. But what happens to these weapons when Season 1 is over and the corresponding Battle Pass is replaced by a new one? After all, these are essential parts of the game.
Will players still be able to get these weapons after Season 1 ends, or can they only access them if they already have them? Can they still be earned through gameplay, or will they have to be purchased instead?
The two weapons from the Season 1 Battle Pass
Even if the weapons do not require a Battle Pass purchase and are freely available to all players, they are tied to specific levels of the Season 1 Battle Pass, and not everyone has them yet or could earn them. Some players joined Season 1 late, others are only starting in Season 2, and some have had very little playtime.

The Crossbow was recently introduced with an update and is also unlocked through a relatively simple, albeit time-consuming in-game challenge. The goal is to achieve 5 DMR kills in a match – and this must be done 25 times (i.e., in 25 matches) with a specific sight. The criteria for unlocking can be viewed directly with the new weapon.
However, a system similar to the blueprints for alternative weapon versions is also conceivable. For this, you need to complete certain missions in the multiplayer challenges, requiring a whole range of various tasks.

One of the big winners on Twitch this week is the LoL streamer Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkampf. He has taken on a new challenge in League of Legends: He will now play Jungler. The streamer is behaving as badly as ever. Previously, he was banned from LoL for this, but today fans love it on Twitch.
How is it going for Tyler 1? The LoL streamer Tyler1 (24) has been one of the big winners on Twitch in the last 7 days. Tyler1 has nearly doubled his viewer hours, but he also streamed twice as much as in the 7 days prior.

Tyler1’s thesis was that there are only losers in the jungle of LoL, as the worst players of League of Legends are there. Therefore, he wanted to show everyone how to jungle properly.
After Tyler1 struggled for a long time in Platinum, rising to Platinum 2, but temporarily falling back to Gold after 6 consecutive losses, he finally managed to work his way up to Diamond.
He celebrated the moment exuberantly, screamed as one knows him, and flexed his muscles. After the match, he praised the Katarina, his own jungle play, and shouted “Fuck You Riot.”
While doing so, he types almost in rage something in the chat, of course all in caps, and loudly shouts it out at the same time.
What he particularly likes: Tyler1 is engaging in a private feud with more or less all other LoL streamers on Twitch. However, he particularly has it out for the streamer Rabia “Nightblue3” Yazbek (26), who won the last Twitch Rivals tournament.
Nightblue is a trained jungler, and Tyler1 was nearly bursting with schadenfreude when he saw that Nightblue3 reached the same rank on his main account as he did on his twink.
Tyler1 was actually only unbanned because he was so popular and a Riot employee insulted him harshly. A LoL designer had drunk too much and announced on a Discord server that Tyler1 would die from a cocaine overdose or from testicular cancer from all the steroids.
The LoL designer was subsequently fired, and Tyler1 returned to League of Legends as “reformed.”
Tyler1 was at the center of the game between EU and NA.
By now, Tyler1 is as bad as ever, but a celebrated star in the LoL scene and on Twitch. The difference from before is probably that Tyler1 now has free rein and it is seen as a show and part of his appearance that he behaves this way, and not as truly “toxic” behavior.
Tyler1 has elevated “flipping out in LoL” to an art form.
The comedy series for MMORPG fans is finally here – How good is “Mythic Quest” on Apple TV+? We summarize the first reviews of the unusual comedy series.
A few weeks ago, we already reported on “Mythic Quest”, a series on Apple TV+ that has now launched. The series not only parodies game development and the industry as a whole, but also highlights major issues and challenges in game development – all paired with a touch of humor. Since yesterday (February 7, 2020), the series has been available for viewing.
What is the series about? In “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet,” it revolves around a development studio responsible for the world’s most successful MMORPG, Mythic Quest. The studio is on the verge of releasing its first major expansion, “Raven’s Banquet,” and is grappling with numerous problems.
All departments in game development want to set different priorities, and looming over everything is the judgment of a 14-year-old streamer with considerable influence, whose opinion could be devastating for the MMORPG.
This is why Mythic Quest works, even if you know nothing about video games. It’s about a group of misanthropes who work together, with comedy that derives from their toxic relationships with each other, pushing them back and forth. You don’t need to know how a studio works to recognize when there is a workplace hierarchy or an egomaniacal boss or a terrible employee who benefits from your work.
Although Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet addresses a number of issues in the video game industry with grace, it fails to find a consistent, meaningful kind of humor that carries us through [the series]. The characters feel like they are excessively cynically written, robbing us of the ability to really empathize with or connect with them (…).
In summary, Mythic Quest is a great series and with a second season already announced, it’s practically a must for fans of workplace comedies and gaming. The series is silly, fun, and something I feel connected to on multiple levels.

What is praised? Often praised with the sentence “It’s funny because it’s true” – although the series exaggerates many problems in the gaming industry, the conflicts and issues at its core reflect the truth. Serious topics are addressed, such as:
the exploitation of gamers
an underfunded QA department (which no one listens to anyway)
the introduction of absurd ways to spend money in the game
the hate that women in the profession receive from gamers
the power of influencers and their impact on success
Mythic Quest manages particularly well here to push these problems to the extreme and still make them even more absurd. The developers, for example, want to introduce a shovel into the game, which however first gets a long backstory from the “lore guy.”
What is criticized? In the reviews, it’s noted that the series occasionally doesn’t know exactly what it wants to be and changes direction multiple times.
At times, the humor is also not as strong as one would expect from a comedy series and relies heavily on old methods, offering little new.
How can you watch the series? To watch “Mythic Quest,” you need to be a subscriber to the “Apple TV+” service. This currently costs 5 euros per month, but a free one-year subscription is included with the purchase of many new Apple products. There is also the option of a 7-day free trial.

MMORPG fans have a hard time in the West. The last major new MMORPG was released in 2016 with Black Desert. If you didn’t like the Asian look, you have to go back to 2014 and The Elder Scrolls Online. Why do we have to wait so long for a new online role-playing game and when will the waiting end?
There is a relatively large number of players in Europe waiting for new MMORPGs and jumping at the first sight of one, but they have been on a diet for years. Depending on how you calculate it, the last major MMORPG was four or six years ago. Since then, there have been some disappointments.

Here’s how it looks in the West: Until 2014, there was always a major Western MMORPG in development. But after the expensive new games The Elder Scrolls Online and WildStar flopped in 2014, the supply stopped. While ESO was able to recover in 2015, the market had already changed:
Western MMO companies from the second tier are either dead like Trion Worlds (ArcheAge) or have withdrawn from MMORPGs like Funcom (Age of Conan, The Secret World)
In another world, we would have been playing “Titan” for years, Blizzard’s next-gen MMORPG.
Here’s how it looks in Asia: In Asia, there have always been major MMORPGs in development or newly released and people were waiting for the EU port. But in the last 5 years, two things have come together in Asia:
On one hand, the mobile boom broke out in Asia early on. Many companies have been developing mobile MMORPGs instead of PC games in recent years: NCSoft is working on Blade and Soul 2 and Aion 2 – both are mobile games.
The West has become less attractive as an “export country” after Korea imports like Bless Online came here or Riders of Icarus quickly sank into insignificance. MMORPGs from Asia are now more likely to go to Russia or other Asian countries than to us.
This has resulted in current Asia MMORPGs like Lost Ark, Justice Online and Moonlight Blade not having a release date yet in Europe.
Many people in Europe would surely love to play Justice Online.
What about crowdfunding? The third source of “new MMORPGs” is the indie or crowdfunding MMORPGs. Here, release dates are set optimistically to bind players to them and then pushed back year after year:
Because the studio runs out of money and couldn’t find an investor (Chronicles of Elyria)
Because the studio has more money than expected, and therefore the MMORPG keeps getting bigger (Crowfall)
Because the studio really needs much longer than originally thought and starts side projects to give people something to play (Camelot Unchained, Ashes of Creation)

Google, Amazon and Facebook are snatching up the programmers
These economic problems are added: In addition to the individual reasons of various sources, there is a fundamental change in the gaming industry compared to the 2000s.
MMORPGs require a long development time and high investment costs. However, the experiences of recent years and the many flops of even high-profile games show that success is by no means guaranteed.
As a result, MMORPGs have become a great financial risk, while on the other hand, especially mobile games are making a lot of money and allowing access to new buyer groups. It is therefore more attractive for Activision Blizzard to develop Call of Duty: Mobile or Diablo Immortal than a $140 million project, as Titan might have become.
In addition, programmers are demanding significantly more money than before. Because all software companies draw from the same pool. As studio head Marc Jacobs explained, the salaries of programmers “exploded” from 2014 to 2017 as companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon paid salaries that were far above what’s typical in the gaming industry. This applies not only to top people but also to inexperienced programmers.
When will the next major MMORPG come? It’s impossible to say for sure. There are no “sure hits” on the horizon, as was previously the case when Western studios developed games for 60 million dollars and more.
Currently, there are three major hopes for a “soon release”:
Crowfall, the indie MMORPG, is expected to enter beta soon. It is the hope bearer for fans of PvP MMORPGs. The game is said to have a budget of around 35 million dollars by now. From the Western side, this is still the game with the highest chance of establishing itself
A new serious bug has been discovered in Destiny 2 that allows Warlocks to use their Super for an unlimited amount of time. However, the Destiny community is taking it with humor and celebrating the new glitch.
What have Guardians discovered? Destiny 2 has been struggling this season with numerous glitches and bugs that drive some players crazy, while for others, they can increase the fun factor.
A new bug was discovered last night. Even though many Guardians see it as “gamebreaking,” the error is currently causing a lot of laughter. The community is taking it with humor and celebrating the glitch and Season 9 as the “Season of Bugs.”
What exactly does the bug do? The bug has become widely known on social media and Reddit, however, we will not provide a detailed guide here, as it also works in PvP.
It allows Dawnblade Warlocks with the bottom and top focus tree to use their Super essentially indefinitely after it has been activated. The Super only ends when you stop spamming the Super attacks, and can then be reproduced without any issues.
According to initial reports, this bug can also be reproduced without any issues in PvP.
What triggers the bug? Without describing it in detail: This time no armor exotic or any special weapon is responsible. The bug is simply part of the Dawnblade Warlocks and can be triggered by a simple mechanic.
How are players reacting? The community takes it with humor. Although there are one or two players who are genuinely annoyed by the new glitch or the seemingly increasing frequency of bugs in Season 9, most comments take this error with humor.
For example, it was mentioned by well-known Destiny blogger shackleshotgun: “Dawnblade weekend emblem, here we come…” This is a reference to the special emblems that Bungie once awarded for the overpowered phases of weapon exotics like Lord of Wolves and Prometheus Lens.
The PvP ace Frostbolt says: “I’m dying of laughter. PvP creators, unite – we have content!”
MarcoStlye, who now plays Destiny alongside The Division, notes: “It’s time to secure the Legend rank this season.”
And Twitter user seyywhat summarizes it well from Bungie’s perspective and referencing the frequent deactivations recently: “Due to discovered issues, we are deactivating Warlocks until further notice until a server-side hotfix is provided.”
Some players on Reddit are also making fun of it and wondering what Bungie could possibly do quickly this time – ban the Warlocks? After all, there is no exotic or anything else that can be removed from the game if necessary.
Others refer to it as the Season of Bugs or the Season of Disabled – also referencing the frequent problems and deactivations throughout Season 9.
How is Bungie responding? The studio itself has not yet released a statement. However, the community manager dmg04 responded to the tweet from Gladd, who highlighted the bug widely, with a funny GIF.
How and when exactly the developers will respond to this issue is unknown, but Bungie has obviously already become aware of the error. So it can be assumed that players will not be able to play around with the new Warlock glitch for long.
Although Bungie regularly releases updates and hotfixes for Destiny 2, with every bug that is fixed, it seems like several new ones surface in the eyes of numerous Guardians. As soon as Bungie announces the fixing of a bug, one can almost be sure that several new errors have emerged or that the problem has worsened, according to the opinion of many players.
Therefore, many are now also calling it the Season of Bugs in Destiny 2.

The MMORPG year 2020 offers little. But two major expansions for The Elder Scrolls Online and World of Warcraft want to win the hearts of players. Greymoor and Shadowlands.
Although the year 2020 brings some big blockbuster games, it looks rather bleak for MMORPG fans. There are only a few new, large MMORPGs – so the two expansions for well-known MMORPGs provide a small glimmer of hope and might satisfy the hunger for new games. We are talking about World of Warcraft: Shadowlands and The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor. Both expansions will be released in 2020.
We want to show you what the two major MMORPG expansions are about and for which players it might be worth taking a look.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands
What is Shadowlands about? With Shadowlands the story takes us away from Azeroth into a previously unknown environment. The Shadowlands are essentially various realms of the dead. Here, the souls of all creatures are sent when they die on Azeroth.
Typically, souls end up in different areas, depending on who they belonged to and what kind of character the soul had. The souls of nature spirits, for example, end up in the forest of Ardenweald, while particularly dark souls end up in eternal damnation in the Maw.
However, currently there is a problem: All souls are sent directly to the Maw, from the peaceful farmer to the great hero.

What criticism points does Shadowlands aim to resolve? Shadowlands addresses criticism points primarily by moving away from old mechanics that have been unpopular with players. There will be no permanent grind of artifact power – this had annoyed players in Legion and Battle for Azeroth.
Additionally, Shadowlands brings back numerous abilities that were lost over the course of the 7 other expansions. Each class will receive a selection of “old” abilities back. For example, paladins will get their auras back, while warlocks will regain their curses.
Lastly, players should have more freedom in defining which goals they pursue. Each character will be able to aim for legendary items. Progress will depend less on chance and more on the individual player’s efforts.
What else does Shadowlands offer? Besides the major features, Blizzard will also implement many small improvements to character creation. There will be numerous new customization options for all races. For example, humans can now also have an Asian or Afro-American look. Undead can cover their bones or receive new hairstyles.
Besides that, the leveling experience for low-level characters will be fundamentally revised. The maximum level will be reduced to level 60, and those who want can level completely from level 1 to 50 in an expansion of their choice. Thus, one can, if one wishes, play through “Wrath of the Lich King” from start to finish again or explore Pandaria once more while leveling.
Who will find Shadowlands worthwhile? Shadowlands aims to correct many mistakes made with Battle for Azeroth. It’s worth it for all who were particularly disappointed by the last expansion. Those who also want to learn a lot of new lore about Warcraft and experience the story of Sylvanas Windrunner to the end should give Shadowlands a chance.
When will Shadowlands be released? There is no exact release date for Shadowlands yet. However, the game is definitely set to be released in 2020. The earliest possible date would probably be late summer, meaning August or September 2020. The beta should begin soon, and then a release time can certainly be determined more accurately. The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor
What is Greymoor about? After the victory over the dragon Kaalgrontiid in the ESO DLC Dragonhold, you will travel to the far north of Tamriel – the province of Skyrim. There, a dark vampire lord has risen from the depths and now threatens the population with an army of bloodsuckers, witches, and werewolves. Your task is to find out what the vampire lord’s goals are.
You will experience the beginning of this new epic adventure on February 24 in the DLC Harrowstorm. In this, you will travel to the frozen island of Icecap. The mysterious Icecap Circle wants to perform an ancient, unholy ritual there. You must uncover the secret of a storm of supernatural power and stop the Circle. Additionally, you will explore the Unholy Tomb beneath the dunes of Bangkorai. Tomb raiders are searching for forgotten secrets and forbidden power there. Harrowstorm will introduce you to the first clues about the Black Heart of Skyrim and the new threat that is building.
In May, the major addon Greymoor awaits you. This will take you to western Skyrim and into the depths of Blackreach. There, you will learn that the vampire lord wants to devour the souls of Skyrim’s inhabitants and engulf the entire land in darkness. You are tasked with restoring the light to stop the creatures.
What are the major changes in Greymoor? ESO tells a new story with Greymoor around the Black Heart of Skyrim and brings a lot with it:
The new area Western Skyrim: A large game area where you not only travel through an icy tundra but also descend into the gigantic underworld of Blackreach.
The Storms of Grief: A large group event that takes place in the open world.
Kynes Aegis: This is a new trial for 12 players.
The new Antiquities system: You collect artifacts scattered throughout the world and excavate them through a mini-game. However, it is necessary to find the locations where the items are hidden first.
Mythic Gear: These new items provide you with many advantages, including speed buffs or Magicka regeneration. However, you can only wear one piece of this gear at a time.
Revision of the vampire skill line: Skills are cheaper, and you regenerate Magicka and Stamina faster as a vampire. Also, you take less damage when falling below a certain health point threshold. The biggest innovation is that you now become stronger when you drink blood and no longer when you are starving.
What criticism points does Greymoor aim to resolve? Greymoor aims to provide players with not just a new story but also finally introduce a new gameplay mechanic. ESO fans have been wishing for this for a long time. And here comes the Antiquities system into play. You go on a hunt for artifacts and must unearth them through mini-games. This could be really fun and sounds like Indiana Jones.
The revision of the vampire skills is a double-edged sword. It is necessary to make vampires truly interesting, but it contradicts the lore of The Elder Scrolls. In the world of Tamriel, vampires usually become stronger and wilder the more they starve. That this is now reversed and vampires become more powerful through blood-drinking might not please everyone. However, the innovations are indeed sensible and important.
What else does Greymoor offer? Greymoor essentially offers what many ESO fans have long desired: a return to Skyrim. Exploring the homeland of the Nords was a significant part of the enjoyment in the extremely successful The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, and now being able to return to this land should be highly interesting for Skyrim fans. Moreover, we finally learn more about the vampires of the game world and get to see one of the most exciting underworld areas of Tamriel: Blackreach.
Players should feel like Indiana Jones.
Who will find Greymoor worthwhile? First of all, the addon addresses all fans of the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online who are interested in the story and the lore. Finally, the story continues, and we also learn more about the deepest secrets of the world.
Additionally, the addon will likely appeal to fans of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. After all, we are returning to Skyrim and experiencing this province in a different time. Not everything is as we know it from TES 5, which should provide for some surprises.
When will Greymoor be released? The Greymoor addon itself will be released on May 18 for PC and June 2 for PS4 and Xbox One. However, Greymoor is only part of the story surrounding the Black Heart of Skyrim, which will span the entire year 2020. The adventure will begin on February 24 with the DLC Harrowstorm on PC. The PS4 and Xbox One version will follow on March 10. You can already pre-order Greymoor now.
In August and November 2020, two more yet unnamed DLCs will follow, which will conclude the story.
With WoW and ESO, you can get through the year 2020 well
With WoW: Shadowlands and ESO: Greymoor, MMO fans have plenty to do to get through the year. Those who are not loyal to any game can perfectly dip into ESO in May and later take a trip to the Shadowlands of WoW.
Keep in mind that both the expansion for World of Warcraft and that for The Elder Scrolls Online are not yet released. A final assessment will only be possible after the release.

Beware of Amazon Warehouse Deals
With Amazon Warehouse Deals, you can usually save good money – but in the worst case, you might end up with more problems.

Why you shouldn’t skimp on the power supply
A conventional power supply for a PC. If you save money here, you risk damaging other components in the event of a malfunction. Manufacturers like Corsair, Seasonic, Coolermaster, or be quiet! typically offer good power supplies with high safety standards.
Building a PC should be as cheap and easy as possible. However, you shouldn’t skimp everywhere and should invest a few more euros instead.
Why should I opt for more expensive power supplies? Expensive power supplies offer high safety and quality standards. Modern power supplies are often equipped with protection mechanisms. The three most important fuses are:
Short circuit protection (SCP): This should prevent the power supply or other components from being damaged in the event of a short circuit.
Over power protection (OPP): If the power supply is heavily loaded, it aims to cause the power supply to shut down on its own.
Over current protection (OCP): This should protect the power supply and components from excessive voltage drops.
What is the disadvantage of cheap power supplies? Cheap power supplies for around 20 euros often promise 600 watts, but the promised performance is rarely sustained:
The promised maximum performance is not a continuous performance but a possible peak performance that is achieved only rarely. If you buy a cheap power supply with a maximum output of 650 watts, you might expect it to deliver a continuous performance of 450 watts.
With a cheap no-name power supply, there’s also a risk that the protection mechanisms are poorly implemented. Often, in the cheap range, savings are made on protective circuits, and only one internal fuse, such as a thermal fuse, is installed.
If the power supply fails, other components may also be damaged. With modern power supplies, this should no longer be the case today.
Therefore, especially with the power supply, you should opt for reputable manufacturers such as Corsair, Seasonic, Coolermaster, or be quiet!
PC won’t start, what to do? Speaker and null method
This is what a speaker looks like. The rectangular piece (on the left) connects to the motherboard, and the round side (on the right) produces the sound. Speakers cost only a few euros and are well worth the money.
If you’ve spent a lot of time assembling a PC only to find that it won’t start, the frustration is significant. Then you have to take everything apart again and troubleshoot: Perhaps I just forgot a power cable? Or is one of the parts broken?
What is a speaker? A beeper/speaker can save time and nerves here. A beeper or officially a speaker is a mini loudspeaker that transmits sounds from the motherboard. The devices are about the size of a thumb and can be connected to a speaker socket of the power supply.
Where does the beep come from? Each BIOS of a motherboard has a “beep code”. A specific sequence of tones signifies an error or explains what is missing from the computer. A very comprehensive list of BIOS tones can be found, for example, on Wikipedia.org. You can also find it in the motherboard manual.
Each time you start the computer, the BIOS will signal via the speaker whether everything is working fine or if something is missing. For example, if I connect a part to my motherboard and then start the motherboard, a loud tone may sound. This means in my case: “Everything is okay, I am functioning perfectly.”
This way, I can check every other connected part, and you can quickly find a broken part without having to take everything apart again.
The PC won’t boot – The null method in detail
In the null method, only the CPU, CPU cooler, and power supply belong on the motherboard in the first step. If the CPU cooler does not spin, there is a great risk that the processor will overheat and be damaged.
How does the null method work? The null method is a simple method to quickly and precisely identify the problem during self-building. Below, we present the most important steps:
Connect the speaker to the motherboard and only connect the CPU, CPU cooler, and power supply.
Start the motherboard and wait for the beep. If there is no sound, the power supply or CPU is likely defective.
If it beeps, turn off the PC and install the RAM, then restart and wait for the beep. If there is no beep, the RAM is likely defective.
If there is a sound with RAM, turn off the PC and install the graphics card.
Tip: Modern motherboards also provide built-in speakers or LEDs that indicate errors. It is definitely worth investing a few extra euros for this. It significantly reduces stress (and troubleshooting) later on!
Some manufacturers are also kind enough to include a speaker in the newly packaged case. Alternatively, a speaker can also be ordered for two or three euros.
Have patience and take your time
This may sound trivial, but it is helpful. Never try to assemble a computer between two appointments or in a hurry. This won’t work, and something will definitely go wrong. Especially the processor is very sensitive.
Why is the processor particularly sensitive? The CPU is the central processing unit of the PC, bluntly put, the heart of the computer. If even a single pin on the back of the processor breaks, it can mean the death of the processor.
This is what the back of a CPU looks like, it’s called a pin grid array. If even a single pin is damaged or broken, it can render the processor unusable.
Can damaged CPU pins be bent back? The pins, also known as pin grid array (PGA) in English, are needed by the processor for data and power from the motherboard. Among the pins, there are also some that have no function, called “not connected” pins. If such a relatively unimportant pin gets damaged, the processor could still function.
However, if pins are damaged upon opening the packaging, the safest way is to return the processor: Because a damaged processor could also irreparably damage other parts.
Why should you take your time? A lot can happen in a hurry. You might screw the screws too tight and ruin the processor mount, or you may forget to discharge yourself statically beforehand. It’s better to take a whole weekend and do it peacefully; then you will be on the safe side.
Tip: A tidy desk is also helpful. No liquids or magnetic objects should be nearby, nor crumbs or fatty foods that could damage the electrical components.
PC Self-Build – Have a box with enough parts at home
It is particularly annoying when you think you have found an error but cannot test it because you don’t have a suitable spare part at hand.
Especially then, it is difficult to find spare parts spontaneously. In the local electronics store that I trust, I was kindly told, “We don’t sell crafting materials.” And “crafting materials” include things like RAM. Then you might as well order spare parts online and wait another two days.
No picture during PC self-build – graphics card or motherboard?
Tip: Especially practical at this point are processors with integrated graphics chips. Because even if the graphics card doesn’t work either due to incorrect connection or failure, you will still receive an image thanks to the graphics chip.
The Ryzen 3 2200G is an example of a processor with a graphics unit. Both Intel and AMD offer these combined processors. At the top edge, you can see AMD’s seal, which guarantees that the processor is supposed to be undamaged.
If there is still no picture, then in the best case, it is only a broken HDMI or DisplayPort cable.
Choose a big tower – What should I pay attention to with the case?
The power supply, motherboard, and especially the graphics card require space. If your case is too small, you will have a lot of fun later when you not only have to install all the parts into the case but also cable everything up. If you don’t want to encounter any difficulties during installation later, pay attention to the following:
The case offers cable management. This allows cables to be hidden, and installation becomes easier. Additionally, cables cannot get into the processor or graphics card during operation.
Modular cases or towers are helpful here, as you can easily access any spot. This greatly facilitates the installation of very large components, such as the motherboard.
Integrated fans: They ensure a constant airflow, meaning that hot air is quickly transported outside the case.
Tip: The airflow inside your PC is important for consistent performance. Graphics cards and processors need air to cool down. Hot air must then exit; otherwise, a heat buildup occurs, causing performance to drop.
Graphics cards and processors throttle once they get too hot. If enough fresh air reaches the components, the performance remains at the same level instead.
Build your own PC or buy one?

Do you know the feeling of having accomplished something? And the feeling is indescribable when the PC finally starts, and you see the BIOS lighting up on the screen.
For me, the relief was enormous when the PC finally started. It’s a great feeling when after days everything finally works as it should.
It’s also great to play on your own PC later and think, “I built that myself over the last few days and didn’t just buy it ready-made like many others,” and that makes all the effort and work worthwhile.
What advantages does building a PC offer me? Those who take the time and effort to assemble a PC themselves also gain several advantages:

On Battlefield 5, Chapter 6 began on February 4, featuring a new map with several game modes. However, for many players, the new weapons and fresh content are not the highlight of the upcoming chapter. They are waiting for Update 6.2 – What should it improve?
What are BF5 players waiting for? Many players are waiting for the complete or partial reversal of some changes in weapon balance.
Since the Update 5.2.2 on December 16, 2019, Battlefield 5 plays somewhat differently. Many weapons deal significantly less damage, especially at longer distances. For some players, these drastic changes to the Time-to-Kill (TTK), the time it takes to eliminate an opponent, felt completely unnecessary.
Even before the update, many players were upset about the planned changes, and since then, the frustration has hardly subsided. Together with the patch notes for the new Chapter 6, the developers have now announced that the changes will be at least partially reversed with Update 6.2.
The content of the new chapter is taking a back seat, Update 6.2 seems more interesting.
Time-to-Kill drives the community crazy even without a jungle
Why is this more important than a big update? Since the announcement of the changes in mid-November, the adjustments to the TTK have been the major topic in the community. There was briefly joy over the well-executed Chapter 5, but with the release of the changes, it was basically only about that.
Why are the players so upset? For many players, the shooter was wonderfully balanced at the time of the changes.
Battlefield 5 played smoothly, Chapter 5 brought plenty of fresh content, and everything seemed alright. But then the developers at DICE changed one of the most important aspects of the game – fundamentally.
At the end of 2018, the developers raised the Time-to-Kill or Time-to-Death with an update, but after significant criticism from players, this change was reversed after only a week. Players are simply angry that this is happening again.
Besides the TTK/TTD, some players have also expressed issues with the spotting system, which was dramatically changed in Chapter 5. However, the developers did not have much to say about this in the official patch notes.
Players are complaining about unnecessary changes to the TTK. They feel it takes too long to eliminate opponents.
TTK will be changed again, but it won’t be like it used to be
Why is BF5 changing this again? EA repeatedly emphasizes that they want to listen to the players, and it seems they have. The reactions have simply not quieted down.
Almost 2 months after the changes, BF soldiers still cannot adjust to the adjustments, so the comments under the trailer for Chapter 6 are full of demands to revert the TTK to its previous level.
What is going to be changed this time? There have already been some statements from those responsible. On reddit, the BF5 community manager “PartWelsh” even elaborated on the topic.
With Update 6.2, we will release a series of additional changes that are based on your feedback and our gameplay data. All details will be shared after the release of 6.0. You will notice that in close combat, the familiar recoil and rate of fire will return.
We will continue to work with a damage model where weapons designed to be lethal at close range will still deal less damage beyond 30 meters than you know from 5.0. However, we want to adjust the damage curves so that the damage loss does not feel as direct or severe. For weapons that should be more effective at longer ranges, such as semi-automatic rifles or carbines, the damage loss will occur later. This should ensure that these weapons operate more in line with their intended design and perform significantly better at longer ranges.
Similar changes will also be made to the LMGs and assault rifles. I will keep you updated as soon as we have finalized the new design (of the damage models, ed.) and will then bring it into a release state.
What could this mean? This sounds a bit as if the developers are trying to stick to their changes and find a compromise.
It is presented as if the weapons previously had a completely unrealistic damage profile that did not match the weapons. The weapon classes are supposed to gain a stronger character and distinguish themselves more clearly from one another, especially at different ranges.
It will be interesting to see how this compromise will look and whether the community will be satisfied with it.
Hundreds of memes mocked the new TTK
The reactions were intense from the start, and that has not changed to this day. New memes can still be found almost daily on reddit, and players are tireless in reminding the developers: keyword #revert – for “Revert The TTK” (Set the TTK back).
How did the community react to the change? After the announcement of the change in mid-November, complaints began. At that time, players still hoped that they could make a difference with their reactions to Update 5.2.
