We at MeinMMO sent our author Philipp Hansen into a streaming competition of Destiny 2. Here’s how the event went for him.
What event are we talking about? Currently, the Guardian Games in Destiny 2 are taking place. This is an Olympic competition where Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks compete for medals and glory – it is finally to be determined which class is the most dedicated in the universe.
To celebrate the Guardian Games, an official event competition was organized by Bungie. Three teams of German-speaking streamers and gaming channels represented the three classes.
We at MeinMMO cover the Destiny franchise even before it officially saw the light of day and provide daily guides, analyses, or news. Now we wanted to show at the streaming event that we also know what we are always writing about.
As luck would have it, I and my Warlock were sent into the race. I want to share with you, with a wink, how my experience went as a streaming noob in the competition.
Thrown into the competition unprepared
These were the event preparations: How did I even get to participate in the event? The “guilt” goes to Leya, our Brand Manager at MeinMMO. She has the important contacts, even with Bungie, and basically arranged everything necessary. I just had to log into my PS4 at the right time.
Each team consisted of 3 Guardians; in my case, my colleagues were: Schausix and anima mea. We were also accompanied by Maurice. He is Bungie’s Community Manager for the DACH region and served as referee, scorekeeper, and substitute to ensure a fair competition.
Here is why I was nervous: While I was still discussing the best approach with the shooter experts Sven and Maik from MeinMMO in the party chat, Maurice burst in with a hearty “Hello” and whisked me away from my writing.
I must admit, nervousness took hold of me. I had zero streaming experience, and now Bungie’s official spokesperson was also present among the seasoned Twitch veterans.
An update (including server maintenance), which of course hit exactly at our planned broadcast time, forced us to reschedule the live stream to 10 PM. Naturally, this was very conducive to my nervousness.
This is how the start went: After just a few seconds, there was no trace left of the initial nervousness. The atmosphere in the stream was nice and warm. I quickly blended into the team and soon chatted as openly as with my friends and cherished clan colleagues.
Now it was time to earn as many medals as possible in the Guardian Games within one hour. Preferably gold, because the nobler the metal, the more points for Team Warlock. Since we didn’t want to use prepared bounties or medals for fairness, we were excited about which activities lay ahead that day.
Medals were available on April 29 for:
- Destinations
- PvP
- Bounties
A quick team consultation revealed that we wanted to tackle the kills and glory for the destinations challenge first. If there was still time left, we could dive into the Crucible.
This was my PvE tactic: With the Stormcaller and the exotic Crown of Storms, I felt well-equipped for the necessary ability kills. Because only kills with grenades, charged melee, or Super generate the essential glory for your Guardian.
This was complemented by finely tuned mods, which allowed me to produce glory for the team at a rapid pace. Faster than expected, the destination medals were bagged.
In the meantime, a switch to the Voidwalker was on the agenda, as I could also easily complete the required bounties for the bounty gold medal in PvE.
This was my PvP tactic: The colleagues also soon obtained their medals and we prepared for the Crucible. This time, my choice was:
- The bottom tree of the Shadebinder – one of the best Supers to generate glory in the hectic “6 vs. 6” matches
- Astral Horizon – The Trials shotgun has recently become feared and coveted
- The Summoner – The auto rifle was my replacement for the Exotic Hard Light, which was nerfed just a few hours ago
- The Truth – The seeking rocket launcher guarantees an easy kill with power ammo, sometimes even 2 or 3
In other words, I went full “meta” in the Crucible. But hey, the honor of Team Warlock was at stake.
In our first match, we were severely overrun. Doubly frustrating, as not only was a live audience watching but our hour was also nearing its end.
But in the following rounds, I really stepped it up. Perhaps the Warlock Osiris possessed me, but kill after kill lined up, bringing me dangerously close to the gold medal.
Time was running out: Maurice suddenly announced that our time was almost up. Even the heat of battle could not distract the pro from his duties. While we were still permitted to finish the ongoing match, if the task was not completed by the end of the hour, it would not be considered finished.
Tactical approaches were passé; Team Warlock needed kills, MeinMMO needed kills, I needed kills. And lo and behold, just before the end, the long-awaited gold medal for 50 kills in PvP popped up.
We met in the Tower and each reported our accomplishments. The strong balance for Team Warlock:
- 5x Gold
- 3x Silver
- 6x Bronze
Gold for MeinMMO in the Guardian Games?
This is how the competition ended: I eagerly followed the streams of the competitors. Their teams consisted of:
- Hunters: ZiroTV, PowMia_030 and Thorsten Hellmeister
- Titans: Darantino from TheRocketBeans, Fluffy_Schmutz and AndyEdition.

I am particularly glad that we Warlocks were able to secure a victory in the Guardian Games, as currently the Titans dominate the event – and that is completely legitimate despite cheating accusations.
By May 12, you can still dive into the competition yourself and hunt for medals for your preferred class.
