Which boss is it about? It is about Nefarian from Blackwing Lair – the raid is likely remembered by many veterans simply as “BWL”. It was the second major raid of classic World of Warcraft and took players high into Blackrock Mountain to fight against the black dragons and ultimately Nefarian, the son of Deathwing.
Nefarian was long considered one of the toughest bosses since almost the entire raid required a special cloak, and the fight spanned multiple phases – something that was rather unusual back then.

I don’t know about you, but: I just love it when a game manages to tell a captivating story. And yes, I realize that Pokémon GO is not exactly the game where you should expect a gripping narrative.
Suddenly an exciting story: After years of research, storytelling, and consultation, Professor Willow, the number-one contact for trainers in Pokémon GO, suddenly disappeared. The character who guides new and old trainers through the game, manages research, and introduces new elements, was just gone.
In his place was Rhi, a mysterious member of the “Ultra Research Team,” with the goal of investigating the new wormholes and preventing a possible invasion of Ultra Beasts. Rhi also told us that Willow was “stuck somewhere in the Ultra Dimension” – exciting!
Normally, I quickly click through the quest texts and only occasionally read what the professor has to say. But this upheaval was so striking that I thought: There might be a really good story here.
But the story just didn’t take off.
A strong start fizzles out – what a shame
What made the beginning so good: I always find it exciting in Pokémon GO when something unexpected happens. For example, when Meltan suddenly appeared everywhere or when huge numbers of Bidoof started to invade the game over the course of a week. You really feel like something special is going on. The story of the missing professor also started with exciting elements. On the one hand, there was the striking replacement by Rhi, but also things like the new “Ultra Gates.”

The first problems: Already during these weeks, the story started to show slight cracks. The reason was quite simple: Rhi took the lead at events like the Community Day with Kapuno, but at the research breakthrough or the conclusion of older special research tasks, a familiar face appeared: Professor Willow was still haunting the game and appeared on trainers’ smartphones as if nothing had happened.
Well, Rhi just wasn’t programmed in. What a shame, because it would have made it clearer that we were currently fighting a problem and that the professor was indeed gone.
Return at the finale:The GO Fest Finale took place over the weekend and was supposed to bring the final installment of the Willow story as announced. I was curious how we would find and save the professor.
The answer: Not at all. Rhi handled it herself and wrapped the story up in a few sentences.
Good news, Rhi told us: After analyzing the wormholes, the professor was found and brought back. Without our great efforts, this would not have been possible. I mean… did we do anything?
After that, Willow also spoke to us. The good man apparently had quite an adventure, as evidenced by his heavy adventurer jacket and new glasses. He also said himself that he had experienced a fantastic adventure but now wanted to go to sleep.
Sounds super exciting. It raises the question: Why were we not there?
The professor has obviously changed
That’s it already? While it was exciting to read the story about the professor, gameplay-wise we were basically doing the same thing as always – catching Pokémon in the wild, battling monsters in raids.
With all this buildup, it was surprisingly little. I don’t expect the entire map in the game to be transformed into the Ultra Dimension – but that we didn’t have to do anything at all to save the professor, I didn’t quite expect. Anyone who just clicked through the text probably didn’t catch much of the story.
Even in the Pokémon GO subreddit “TheSilphRoad” there is discussion about the return of the professor and his, well, cooler appearance. It is humorously commented that he is obviously an evil version from another dimension.
And I admit: If this is all just a trick, the story continues, and in the end, it leads to an epic boss fight against Fake Willow to save the real professor – then I said nothing. But I doubt it.

The dusty hardcore shooter Payday is still immensely popular today. At gamescom 2022, MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus was able to exchange a few words with the creator and spoke with him about his new game.
In Payday, you play as bank robbers who must successfully complete a heist with all the hurdles that would also arise in real life: alarm systems, secured safes, and police. The series is considered an absolute hardcore game as every mistake is harshly punished.
On Steam, Payday 2 is still one of the most popular games with over 38,000 players on average (via steamcharts). Some time ago, the creators founded a new studio: 10 Chambers, with which they developed the hardcore shooter GTFO.
At gamescom, I spoke with the CEO of 10 Chambers, Ulf Andersson. He founded the studio that developed Payday: The Heist and Payday 2 and also worked as a developer on the game. He is now planning a new title.

The new game will not be “Payday in Space”
This is the new game: The boss didn’t reveal too much about the new game. Many details are hidden between the lines, and we talked more about the game than he actually answered my questions. However, I could at least squeeze some information out of him regarding the gameplay and setting:
the new game will be a heist game like Payday or GTFO
you will play in a cyberpunk-like technothriller setting, likely similar to Cyberpunk 2077 or Shadowrun
there will be no aliens, the foundation is rather realistic
GTFO has been a major inspiration for some of the features
it will not be “Payday in Space”
The main focus of the game, according to Andersson, is on the multiplayer aspect. They want to create a good cooperative game in which you achieve something together. At the same time, they want to break the fixation on 4 players as a squad:
In our other games […] we always had a 4-player coop. This one is smoother, not just balanced for 4 players. We are trying to find more interesting setups for how the game can be played […] Maybe I want to play with 3 other people on Friday, and then alone or with strangers on Monday or something.
From the conversation, I could roughly gather that something like dynamic difficulty might be planned. At least it sounded as if groups of between 1 and 4 players would be possible – but no guarantee that this is true.
Andersson roughly compared the new game to Destiny and its vaults and raids, but without further context. PvP is not a topic for now. They want to make the best possible cooperative game and focus on that.

How “hard” will it be? Anyone who knows Payday and GTFO knows how punishing the games can be. One mistake, and the police or aliens overwhelm you, and the mission fails. There are few to no checkpoints. Ammo is limited, health points can hardly be replenished, and you can’t take much damage either. A real hardcore experience.
The new title wants to tone things down a bit. Andersson explains to me during the conversation that you can’t appeal to many players at the same time and remain absolutely hardcore. Nevertheless, it remains a heist game with “other features” that would fit. What those are, he did not reveal.
However, Andersson noted that the entry barrier could be lowered if necessary. The new game ultimately relies on many players and a cooperative experience, and too much hardcore would limit the player base too much.
When and where will the game be released? Regarding the release and platforms, neither Ulf Andersson nor Communications Director Robin Björkell could tell me anything. They do not want to raise expectations that they might not be able to meet.

There has been extensive discussion about the Pay2Win elements of Diablo Immortal. After the release, it quickly became clear: those who want to keep up at the top need a fat wallet.
For me, that was never a big problem. Immortal is a good Diablo, a fun monster-bashing experience on the couch, a relaxing activity for the mind after work.
Visual revisions are now planned for the Legendary Emblems. Because there are actually two different types: Legendary Emblems and Eternal Legendary Emblems. Just by the symbol, you couldn’t distinguish between these two.
There is a crucial difference between the two: gems from the “normal” emblems cannot be sold on the player market. Gems from the “eternal” emblems can be sold.

Upon release, these “tricks” were used to make a good profit, and then gradually tone them down. Now you can get Eternal Legendary Emblems without real money – that was not possible at launch.

Perks in Dead by Daylight are important. But with the wrong choice, a survivor can even help the killer… especially beginners experience this often.
The Dead by Daylight community loves discussions and sometimes even great disputes. There are rarely points where a large number of killers and survivors agree – but this is the case with a particularly bad perk. We are talking about a perk that survivors like to choose, but is actually so bad that it primarily helps the killer win the round.
Which perk is it? This refers to the perk “Self-Care” or in the German version “Selbstfürsorge”. The perk allows an injured survivor to heal themselves independently, without relying on another survivor or a med-kit. Thus, a survivor can fully heal themselves. In theory, a good thing – unfortunately only in theory.
Why is the perk so bad? Self-Care sounds useful on paper, but the perk is primarily one thing: a waste of time. With Self-Care, you can only heal at 35% of the normal healing speed – a complete healing thus takes a whopping 46 seconds.
That is such a massive waste of time and takes a survivor out of the game for almost a minute just to heal a single health state. Most killers would wish they had such a powerful perk that removes survivors from the game so efficiently.
From the perspective of many survivors, the better alternative would be to take the perk “Boon: Circle of Healing” to bless a totem and then heal. This takes almost exactly the same amount of time and has the additional bonus that other survivors can also use the totem. That’s why “Circle of Healing” is one of the best perks for survivors overall.

The goals within the game must be achievable through different approaches and strategies (for example: you can break down a closed door or pick the lock)

The player must explore the maps and discover new items, with progress resetting after each death
In addition to the 8 defining gameplay elements, there are a number of smaller “low value” points. They can be present in the game but are not mandatory.

What is a “rogue-lite” then? Depending on which gaming circles you move in, the definitions for roguelike games can be less strict. Today, the term is generally used for many games that, according to the Berlin definition, actually fall under “rogue-lite”, meaning a “watered-down” version.
Developers have experimented a lot with various genre combinations in recent years, resulting in a whole series of games that are now seen as strong representatives of roguelikes, even though they lack some of the “high value characteristics”:
Games like Binding of Isaac and Hades both do not have turn-based combat systems
Slay the Spire and Enter the Gungeon are a card game and a shooter, not RPGs
Binding of Isaac is one of the most well-known representatives of rogue-lites.
Moreover, the individual rounds within these games are shorter than in traditional roguelikes and their difficulty often lies well below the brutal requirements of the classic representatives of the genre or is adjustable.
Strictly speaking, these games are therefore considered rogue-lite (via Wikipedia), even though they contain core elements such as procedurally generated dungeons, permanent death, and resource management.
Rogue and roguelikes have had such an influence on gaming that their core elements are also used outside the genre, for example in MMORPGs like WoW and FFXIV, where there are individual procedurally generated dungeons.
In ARK: Survival Evolved, players not only fight for survival, they also tame wild creatures and build elaborate bases. However, one player discovered strange structures on his server that he couldn’t make sense of.
What is it about? The ARK player u/Jelly1153 discovered strange constructions by other players on the server he plays the survival game on. The peculiar structure has no proper walls on all sides to protect from dangers, nor a proper roof or enough space to store loot and resources.

What are these structures? The strange structures discovered by u/Jelly1153 are a trap for the Argentavis. This was invented by YouTuber captain fatdog.
The Argentavis is a very useful creature and is a true jack-of-all-trades in ARK: Survival Evolved. The bird has an enormous carrying capacity, is a flying workbench, and a solid fighter. Additionally, it halves the weight of numerous resources it carries in its inventory.
The Argentavis is also one of the reasons why ARK is made too easy by flying creatures. Therefore, it is very valuable to tame this all-rounder with little effort.
What do you need for the trap? You can build the Argentavis trap by captain fatdog with just a few resources. You will need only 300x Stone, 161x Wood, and 111x Straw. From this, you build the following items:
1x Stone Foundation
3x Stone Double Door Frame
1x Stone Trap Door Frame
2x Stone Railings
1x Reinforced Double Door

If you prefer a written explanation instead of the video, which you can always refer back to, we describe the process in 8 short steps:
Step 1: Place a Stone Foundation on the ground, ideally not far from an Argentavis spawn.
Step 2: Place a Stone Double Door Frame (T1) on the Stone Foundation
Step 3: Place another Double Door Frame (T2) on the first (T1)
Step 4: Now place a third Double Door Frame (T3) on the adjoining side
Step 5: On the highest Door Frame (T2), place a Stone Trap Door Frame. Make sure this is right above the foundation and acts like a roof.
Step 6: On the standalone Door Frame (T3), now place a Stone Railing (S1)
Step 7: On the opposite side of the standalone Door Frame (T3), now place a second Stone Railing (S2) that runs parallel to the first (S1).
Step 8: Finally, you need to place a Reinforced Double Door in the standalone Door Frame (T3). Ensure that the door opens inward. However, when you lure the Argentavis into the trap, the door must be closed.
A Door is the Key to Success
How does the trap work? At first glance, the trap seems like the Argentavis could easily fly out of it. But this is not the case if you use the trap as follows:
You lure the raptor through the wide open side of the trap where there are no Door Frames or Stone Railings placed into the interior of the trap. You can even sit on a Pteranodon for this, as it can fly straight through the double Door Frames. The Argentavis cannot do this because it is too large.
Then you walk outside the trap to the Door Frame with the Double Door inside and open it. When the door is open, it juts into the flight path through which the bird flew into the trap. The Argentavis can no longer leave the trap due to its size.
