The sports game FIFA 23 by EA has recently come under criticism for microtransactions. German Twitch streamers, however, are pulling packs endlessly. Our author Schuhmann came across a clip of the streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris, where the 34-year-old draws Ronaldinho and is impressed.
The 59-second clip from October 2022 is a total work of art and rightly the most successful FIFA clip in Germany over the last 30 days with 53,000 views. In fact, the clip is even the biggest FIFA clip in the world in October: But the drama between Adept and xQc somehow claimed the number one spot because Adept happened to be live with FIFA 23 in a bizarre scene (via twitch). Whatever.
The clip that fascinates me begins with MontanaBlack talking about heartbreak while absentmindedly opening FIFA packs in the chat with other streamers. It’s just clicked through, not really paying attention to what’s happening in the game.
But then comes the animation of a walkout, which is played when particularly strong cards are drawn from a pack. MontanaBlack knows immediately. “Something big is happening here.”
Then he receives several pieces of information in quick succession:
- Even before he knows anything and just sees “Walkout,” he already jumps in his chair and shouts: “Oh my God, Legend, dude!”
- Then he sees “Brazil,” the numbers skyrocket, and he recognizes the player’s position – he shouts excitedly with outstretched arms: “Brazil, CAM!”
- Then Ronaldinho smiles at him, and MontanaBlack escalates into a roar: “Ronaldinho!”
Like a footballer celebrating a goal, MontanaBlack is now completely ecstatic, celebrating himself as if he had just scored the decisive goal against Argentina in 2014, not Götze.
In a second, a lot of pathos – shortly thereafter: “Ronaldinho, you bastards!”
Here, MontanaBlack shows an underestimated reason for his success. He has a tendency for pathos and the grand emotions. Sometimes during the stream, you can see how MontanaBlack completely immerses himself in Phil Collins and creates his own movie to “In The Air Tonight.”
Now he roars: “Heartbreak explanation here, and then Ronaldinho comes and hugs me and gives me a kiss.”
So he seems emotional in that moment, but it only lasts tiny moments. In the same breath, he also shouts: “Ronaldinho, you bastards!”
It is absolutely unclear whom he means by “you bastards” and why he calls that out at that moment – somehow the feelings just had to come out.
Then the other streamers join in: They publicly express their annoyance in the chat about MontanaBlack’s luck: “What?” – “So?”

But MontanaBlack just keeps shouting “Ronaldinho,” first showing the Becker fist, then spreading his arms, distorting his face, and making a strange “Hrrng” sound. “The 89-rated – CAM!” he says proudly.
The other streamers simultaneously say: “What?” – “From which pack?”
MontanaBlack is already onto the next celebration: He makes finger guns and underscores it with sounds: “Pscht, Pscht” – apparently, he’s drawing on every celebration that comes to mind.
Then he holds a finger up to the camera and roars again: “Ronaldinho.” He only makes noises, simply calls out “Wooh” and again “dude.”
“And all of this for only €13,000”
While a colleague mumbles frustrated: “Just a second icon,” MontanaBlack now shakes his finger at the camera and grins with his new teeth, before an unexpected moment of self-irony overtakes him as he says: “And all of this for only €13,000.”
While doing so, he grins, aware of the absurdity of this statement, while a colleague ironically comments: “Bargain.”
As the situation in the clip seems to be over, you can still hear the voice of Trymacs, who arrives too late to the party, asking in disbelief: “Did you pull Ronaldinho?” The envy is audible – then the clip ends.
Distinctive language and authenticity are key to Twitch success
What I find masterful about the clip is the change of emotion. MontanaBlack switches from heartbreak to ecstasy and from “Ronaldinho gives me a kiss” to “you bastards” in the span of moments.
Also, the fact that he goes through every single goal celebration he can think of is great.
Until he then has that moment and self-ironically says: “And all of this for only €13,000” – it seems almost bitter in contrast to the “pure” joy he previously radiated.
The groaning of the colleagues in the background only makes the scene funnier.
You can see why MontanaBlack is such a successful entertainer: he appears authentic and has developed a unique way of phrasing and expressing himself. This might not appeal to everyone, but it has a high recognition value.
In that regard, MontanaBlack has a lot in common with ELoTRiX: he has also found his own language rhythm.
For the same reason, streamers like xQc in the USA are also enormously successful, even if he now speaks in a way that is hardly understandable anymore.
All three streamers can be recognized immediately by their voice and their way of expressing themselves after a few seconds. Each has also coined well-known phrases or expressions. For other “smooth” streamers, this is not the case to the same extent. They might convince with their gameplay or because they hit the right game at the right time.
