Starfield: Gameplay – What can you do in Starfield?

Starfield is a massive action RPG from the creators of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. It is supposed to be a typical Bethesda game, and if you have played Fallout 4 or The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, you can think in that direction – but all with a strong dose of science fiction.

Ships

One of the biggest features is shipbuilding. You can assemble your own ships, choose modules with suitable functions, and create amazing constructions. The ships can be as large as 1.5 football fields. You can enter the ships, fly them, and turn them into your space-faring home.

You are not alone in this. Everywhere in the world of Starfield, you can recruit crew members. Some are companions who assist you on your journeys. Others are pure crew members who do not leave the ship.

Exploration

The universe is open to you, and you are challenged to discover its secrets. Starfield offers over 1,000 visitable planets, with about 10% of them inhabited by life forms.

Many planets and environments are procedurally generated, so they were created randomly. However, the developers emphasize, in the person of Todd Howard, that Starfield still brings the most handcrafted areas of any previous Bethesda titles.

There should be something to discover around every corner. You can catalog alien beings, find upgrades for your weapons or ships, experience strange quests, or simply strictly follow the main story. Just like in Skyrim or Fallout 4, you decide which direction to take after the start.

Story

There will be a major main story that is about 20% longer than in all previous Bethesda titles. It is expected to take around 30 to 40 hours if you strictly follow the story without getting distracted. However, the responsible parties have not yet wanted to commit to that.

Besides that, there are plenty of other stories and adventures to experience. Over 250,000 lines of dialogue have already been confirmed, and there will also be a complete localization into English.

Character / Skills

Here too, Bethesda throws in the well-known superlatives and praises the character editor as … the largest ever in all Bethesda games. Besides that, there is an extensive skills system with more than 60 selectable traits from 5 categories: Physical, Social, Combat, Science, and Technology.

The skills not only help you in combat but can also heavily influence your career in the game. By choosing your “background,” you determine your backstory and acquire corresponding abilities right at the start.

The Vastness of Space

You can decide how you want to play Starfield. Bethesda is following its traditions here and wants to offer you a lot of freedoms. You can trade, smuggle, fight, explore, just talk to people and help them, or rise to become the scourge of the galaxy. Follow your path or let yourself drift.

What do the data mean? “Minimum requirements” means that you can play the game at all. Often this means gaming in 720p (HD) at 30 FPS with low settings. So you shouldn’t expect too much.
