MeinMMO presents games that play similarly to Baldur’s Gate 3 and feel similar. Ideal if Larian’s masterpiece has left a void that you want to fill.
What kind of games are these? We have selected a range of classic role-playing games or “CRPGs” that you can play on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. This includes a selection of the best games from recent years in various settings.
Important for the games on the list is that they share at least some similarities with Baldur’s Gate 3 – that is, they are based on Dungeons & Dragons or other “pen & paper” systems, offer turn-based combat, or otherwise evoke the feel of role-playing.
Here’s how we selected: The list is based on the experience of our authors and editors, many of whom have been engaged with role-playing games for decades. Baldur’s Gate 3 has impressed almost everyone at MeinMMO, resurrecting old experiences.
Many of these titles also belong to the highest-rated games in the genre on Steam and similar platforms, although some have simply been forgotten. However, we recommend only games in which we’ve spent hundreds of hours.

The Pathfinder games are based on the pen & paper of the same name, which itself evolved from an earlier version of Dungeons & Dragons. Unlike D&D (and Baldur’s Gate), Pathfinder is significantly more complex.
You have a choice of dozens of classes and even prestige classes, as well as the ability to gain additional abilities that function independently of your class. However, you still play in a group with companions and turn-based.
Kingmaker is the first part of the two games. In the world of Golarion, you are tasked with ensuring that an overgrown barony can be made habitable again. You become embroiled in ever-growing political intrigue and a supernatural plot that pits you against beings from another world. Along the way, you have to manage your kingdom.
Wrath of the Righteous, or WotR for short, takes it a step further. You must save the entire world from merging with the demon realm. In doing so, you develop special “legend” powers, but you have to manage less than in the first part. It’s more about the adventure.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Trailer
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the direct predecessor of Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian. The RPG plays almost identically, and many lessons that Larian learned from Divinity were applied in Baldur’s Gate 3. The game is regarded as one of the best role-playing games on Steam.
As a chosen one of a god, you have special powers, which, however, are not well-received by the Inquisition – as they threaten the safety of the world. Your task is to decide what to do with these powers and how you want to use them.
The big difference from Baldur’s Gate 3 is that you are not playing in a D&D system, but in a unique rule set. Although the combat still runs in turns, you have action points and no predetermined number of actions.
If you are interested in Original Sin 2, the predecessor Original Sin (1) as well as the other Divinity games, which are, however, played quite differently, are also worth checking out.
In Wasteland 3, you play a group of lawmen trying to restore order in a world after the nuclear apocalypse. The game is strongly reminiscent of the early Fallout titles and is considered one of the best games with an apocalyptic setting.
Instead of fireball and lightning, you fight with flamethrowers and futuristic Tesla cannons or throw grenades. The combat is tactical, and you should use cover to avoid making it easy for your enemies.
Like in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can expect a deep story with various branches and characters and companions with their own personalities. However, it lacks the option to enter into a romance like in Baldur’s Gate 3 or the small conversations among characters.
Wasteland 3 is ideal if you’re looking for a break from the common fantasy settings in the RPG genre. The predecessors of the series are also recommended.
The economy in EverQuest is currently being destroyed by an exploit, leaving many players frustrated. MeinMMO reveals what is behind it.
Why are the players frustrated? The players of EverQuest are frustrated that a new duplication exploit has plagued the old MMORPG and continues to destroy the economy, even though a hotfix has already been released.
The players are particularly upset about the lack of communication from the developers Darkpaw Games and that the hotfix is not sufficient to resolve the issue.

The YouTuber and player TBC explains that this bug has been known for over a week and is being intentionally exploited by some players. The exploit is spreading rapidly, and the market is full of players benefiting from this bug.
According to the YouTuber, players with vast amounts of platinum have bought everything. Krono prices have risen from 65,000 to 2 million, and some players are giving away Krono and platinum to make it harder to reverse the exploit.
The YouTuber emphasized that honest players who do not exploit the bug are the losers in this situation. The economy of the server is now permanently damaged. He argued that Daybreak is too lenient with exploiters, leading cheating to become almost the norm.
Darkpaw Games has addressed the issue in the forum and apologized for the lack of communication. They have also announced measures to be taken by the team to resolve the problem. It remains to be seen how the developers will proceed.
In Counter-Strike the USP-S dominated the meta in pistol rounds for a long time, but now another weapon is sawing at its throne.
Which weapons are we talking about? The USP-S is one of the most iconic weapons in Counter-Strike. The silenced pistol has determined the meta in pistol rounds for years, but now another handgun is scratching at the throne of the USP: the Glock-18.
While you should shoot precisely at the head of your opponent with the USP-S instead of spraying, and take advantage of the good damage values of the pistol, the Glock is also suitable for the so-called ‘Run & Gun’.
“Run & Gun” describes shooting while running, which brings certain disadvantages in Counter-Strike.

Is the meta of CS2 changing? On Reddit, a user named “vecter” started a conversation about the state of the Glock-18 in CS2 and asked: “Is it just me or is the Glock really good in pistol rounds?” Subsequently, vecter explains that he feels the Glock is stronger in CS2 than in its predecessor CS:GO.
Another player seems to have a similar opinion and writes: “Well, since holding angles isn’t working well, what could be better than a ‘Run and Gun’ weapon with 20 bullets for the first round?”
A third user explains: “CTs need to aim carefully with their USPs or they won’t hit a single headshot. Meanwhile, you can do pretty much anything with the Glock while spamming it, even at long distance. […] It’s absurd how easily you can be overrun by Glocks in CS2.”
Many players in the thread believe that the Glock has gained strength in CS2; however, there are also players who feel that the USP is still number one. The question of which weapon will determine the meta in the future is still open.
Peekers-Advantage makes life difficult for the USP
Why is the Glock-18 stronger in CS2 than in CS:GO? In Counter-Strike 2, holding an angle is not as strong as in CS:GO – at least that is the opinion of many players. This is mainly due to the so-called Peekers-Advantage.
The general feeling of most of the community is that the Peekers-Advantage in CS2 is worse than in CS:GO, making holding an angle even more challenging.
What is Peekers-Advantage? Peekers-Advantage means that the player who moves out of cover into a firefight has the advantage, while the player holding an angle is at a disadvantage. So if you aim down a hallway, and your opponent suddenly runs in from the side into that hallway, then your opponent has the advantage against you.
Since it is possible to hit the opponent relatively precisely with the Glock-18 even while running, and it also has a fairly large magazine, the Glock is better than ever due to the reinforced Peekers-Advantage.
Whether the Glock-18 is enough to dethrone the USP-S will remain to be seen. Especially at high elo, where players use their utility, hold angles in crossfire, and land clean headshots, the Glock may lose some of its newfound strength.
Not only the USP-S suffers from the reinforced Peekers-Advantage, but AWP players also have a harder time in CS2. Even s1mple is considering changing weapons in the future:
In League of Legends there is a change in the South Korean LCK league. For 2024, they are introducing a “salary cap”. This means that teams now have to adjust. If they pay too much in salaries for their players, a surcharge, a luxury tax, will be incurred. But star player Faker is exempt from the new rules in LoL due to noticeably specific special clauses.
What is the radical change?
The LCK will now determine how much money a team can spend at most: The limit will be calculated based on the revenues that the teams generated in 2022. Anyone spending more money must pay a “luxury tax”, a surcharge (via lolesports). The luxury tax will be distributed among the other teams.
There is no salary limit for individual players, only for the team: Only the 5 highest-paid players of a team are considered, so substitutes could theoretically be well paid.
A salary cap is mainly known from US sports leagues like the NBA. In South Korea, the idea became increasingly attractive for the officials after some teams, like T1, incurred losses of around 12 million dollars.
This change is now leading many teams in South Korea to fall apart before the 2024 season.

Why was the cap introduced? The league states that the most money is spent by all teams on player salaries. In the last 2 years, the salaries of the 5 top players of each team have risen by 71%.
Therefore, it is necessary to set a limit here to keep the league stable.
What are the effects of the salary cap?
As Dotesports reports, the introduction of a salary cap in South Korea has already caused significant waves:

Some players are also moving from South Korea to the USA: Immortals now has a team leading 3 South Koreans after signing Castle and Mask.
This might also be due to an exception rule in the salary cap. Because anyone who has won 3 international or 5 national titles only has 50% of their salary count against the cap.
The rule is so specific that it only applies to Faker and jungler Peanut:
Faker has been known since 2016 as the only player with 3 world championship titles in LoL (now he has 4)
Peanut has managed to become a champion in the LCK 5 times
Yet even Peanut enjoyed after 2023: He left Gen G after 2 years and is switching to Hanwha Life. They now suddenly have an excellent team with Doran, Peanut, Zeka, Viper, and Delight.
What special rules are there? There is also a rule that teams can ignore 30% of a salary against the cap if a player has been with the club for 3 years. This is intended to reward teams that develop their stars themselves and do not constantly poach players.
It is also recommended that teams spend at least 70% of their cap.
Amirdrassil, Hope of Dreams – it could be the easiest raid in the history of World of Warcraft. MyMMO demon Cortyn thinks it’s great and wants it to stay that way.

At the beginning of World of Warcraft, during the “Vanilla times”, active raiding was only for people who could invest a lot of time in the game. Hours upon hours of active farming and, in case of doubt, coordinating 40 players.
That has changed drastically by now. Not only have bosses become significantly more complex in the number of their abilities, but there are also many tiers of difficulty.
I experience the new gradation of difficulty approximately like this:
LFR: The tourist mode. You don’t have to think, mechanics can be ignored in 95% of the cases. Everyone can see the raid and experience the story, regardless of how much time or skill they bring.
Normal: A raid variant for guilds and friends who want to play casually together. While a bit of coordination is needed among the people, as long as there is a basic level of communication, everything here falls as well.
Heroic: From here, more effort is required. Mechanics must be fully understood by everyone, reactions have to be quick, and a solid understanding of classes is necessary. This is for those who want to invest a bit more time and deliver performance without getting lost in the smallest details.
Mythic: The difficulty for hardcore guilds looking for a maximum challenge and wanting to spend hours analyzing, simulating, and strategizing.
The biggest change has clearly occurred here on normal difficulty, as it has come closer to LFR.
I really like this. Having a variant of the raid that caters to casual players who still play in the social environment of a guild or circle of friends is simply the right way for World of Warcraft in 2023.
There is indeed an increasing number of players who, due to aging and with careers or families, have very little time. That there is an alternative to the (rather soulless and demanding) LFR for this group of players is wonderful.
The SF-MMORPG Star Citizen has now raised 640 million US dollars, most of it through the sale of virtual ships. MeinMMO author Schuhmann has noticed an aspect that is rarely discussed: some seem to view the ships as investments and speculative objects. What is this covert aspect? In my work as an MMORPG author for MeinMMO, I noticed back in 2014 that some MMORPG players have a different incentive to defend an MMORPG than mere enthusiasm.
In 2014, there was unusually sharp criticism and opposition when we reported negatively about the free-to-play MMORPG ArcheAge on MeinMMO, even though the game was clearly “Pay2Win”. In a German forum about the game, I saw players who played ArcheAge very differently than I have ever experienced in 15 years of MMORPG experience:
These players did not see ArcheAge as an MMORPG but as an “investment”.
They played ArcheAge with the clear intention of earning real money by building an early power position in order to generate gold in the game and then sell it.
Therefore, it was normal for them to defend this “investment” by contradicting any criticism of ArcheAge in forums.
Because the “investment” in an MMORPG is only worthwhile if the game attracts new players so that they can find new buyers.

What does this have to do with Star Citizen? In Star Citizen, there is a vibrant gray market for virtual ships on eBay:

On the web, there is even a dedicated site called “The Impound” that specializes in trading “Star Citizen” ships.

This is my theory: I believe some users on the internet – certainly not all, but some – who defend Star Citizen with fervor are speculators protecting “their investment”: they bought ships in Star Citizen for a lot of money, intending to resell them at a high price should the game be successful.
The active gray market for ships in Star Citizen will certainly also fuel the game’s enormous revenue.
What share of speculators accounts for the 640 million US dollars is difficult to determine. Certainly, among the people who are consolidating ships or accounts on eBay, there may also be a collector or two who finds the wait for Star Citizen too long and tries to get back a part of their investment now.
But some offers, especially when several ships of the same kind are offered through immediate purchase, clearly look like speculators who want to sell for profit.
It is noticeable that the trade in virtual ships in Star Citizen has reached unusual proportions and that for years.
There are games where real money is earned virtually, but it is rarely openly discussed:

In Destiny, it annoys the Guardians that they have to buy 3 sets to receive the complete collection; they do not appreciate this splitting of content, especially since many regular players apparently play all 3 classes. As a third problem that receives a lot of agreement, another player explains that you cannot “transmog” exotic items, so you can’t even show the full set. So what is the point of getting the set if you can’t even wear it fully.
The “transmog” allows players in Destiny 2 to wear the items they want in terms of stats, but still look how they prefer.

Reader Mizzbizz thinks there should be no purchase items at all. Everything cool should be earnable in the game.
User WooDaHoo especially criticizes the unfortunate timing of the action. Especially after layoffs, it is remarkable that the PR strategists apparently were allowed to keep their jobs and continue with their business.
Long-time user Millerntorian also considers it a wrong signal at this point in time.
FrauHolle2 says Bungie could have appeased the players here and given the Witcher armor away for free as a “sweetener.” Instead, they are now selling it for 20 Euros a piece. Bungie has “understood nothing.”

In Heave Ho, you should definitely be able to rely on each other. Because some jumps should only be attempted if you are sure that your friend will catch you on the other end. Otherwise, you face the abyss and the lonely new start at the starting point.
Heave Ho can therefore lead to some discussions and swearing. Because if just one person makes a small mistake, it can ruin the entire level.
What to expect: In this game, it is definitely an advantage if you really know each other well and can best understand each other blindly.
Because here it’s your job to defuse a bomb before it blows up in your faces. The tricky part is that only one of you can handle it and see the mechanics of the bomb. All others have the instructions for defusing.
So you need to work together quickly and safely. A wrong instruction or agreement could mean the end of the whole group.

What to expect: In Ultimate Chicken Horse, you try to be the first to reach the goal by running and jumping. What’s special about it? You build the level yourself.
Before each round, you can choose between platforms, lifts, or similar items. However, there are also some traps involved. Because it’s not only about reaching the goal, but also preventing your fellow players from doing so.
Just make sure not to jump into your own built traps, because they can catch you just as well, and then it means: Unfortunately, no points for you this round. Another twist is that you only get points if your level is not too easy.
Sometimes in Ultimate Chicken Horse, you should also cooperate, for example, if you want to knock the leading player off their throne.

In addition to pretty challenging gameplay, the game stands out mainly because of its graphics. These are inspired by classic cartoons from the 1930s. Cuphead was created using similar techniques from that time and impresses with hand-drawn animations and atmospheric jazz recordings.
You should ideally only play the co-op mode of Cuphead with really good friends. Because even if you don’t want to make each other’s lives difficult here, the game itself is so challenging that swearing is programmed.

If we go by the Pokédex, one should best stay away from Flareon. The fire evolution of Eevee constantly radiates heat to prevent its own body from overheating. However, we aren’t talking about a mild fever here: According to “Pokémon Moon,” its body temperature averages 700 to 800 degrees Celsius, and in excitement, it can rise, according to “Ultra Moon,” even to 900 degrees Celsius.
This alone poses a problem of being near Flareon even slightly. It gets even more intense when it attacks: A flame sac in Flareon’s body stores the breath, which it then heats to a relaxed 1,700 degrees Celsius and expels.
For reference: The melting point of titanium is around 1,660 degrees Celsius. Thus, Flareon possesses an immense destructive power that grants it the first place in our ranking.

With patch 10.2, World of Warcraft received a ton of new quests, a new area, and rewards. One of them, the mount “Ochre Dreamclaw”, is only now available. However, to obtain the mount, you must be extremely patient.
This is how you obtain the Dreamclaw: You can find the start of the quest line at the “Smoldering Sproutling” at the southwestern corner of the lake right by Amirdrassil (coordinates: 49/68). When you talk to the sproutling, it wants you to extinguish the fire.
You must not be mounted, otherwise you cannot interact with the object. Once you have extinguished the fire, you need to speak to the sproutling again and clean it. Afterwards, you will receive the first quest: “Some Water…”
For this quest, you need to go to Professor Esch, a treant in the camp of Amirdrassil. From here, the 23-day journey to the mount begins.

How to Get the Ochre Dreamclaw
You need to complete a total of 5 quests, between which you must wait 3 or 5 days each:
Follow Esch’s instructions and fill the water bucket he gives you to water the sproutling. A bar will now slowly fill up.
5 days later, you will receive the next quest: “A few Minerals…” For this, you need to collect fish bones from Deepcoil Lurkers. You will find these just south of the Eye of Ysera.
Another 5 days later, there is the quest: “The Right Food.” For this, you should gather turtle egg shells, whipper root material, and bananas from Tel’Abim. The shells can be found at turtles in the southwest of the island on the beach. The material can be obtained from whippers southeast of the Amirdrassil camp. You can buy the bananas from the innkeeper. Combine all reagents by clicking on a whipper root material in your inventory.
After 3 days of waiting, the fertilizer will be ready. Bring it to the plant and interact with it.
5 more days later, the next quest is ready: “And a Little Magic.” For this, you need to place a totem with treants in the east of the dream and drain energy from it.
After another 5 days, you will finally receive the last quest: “A Little Hope is Never Valueless,” this time from Professor Esche, who stands right next to the sproutling. From him, you will then receive the mount.
While you are waiting for the sproutling to fill its bar, you can safely do something else. If you collect mounts, it is advisable to complete epic seed events in the dream. These have a chance to reward one of 6 mounts.

You can approach Starfield in many ways: You can explore planets, test mods, or engage with the main story. One player tackled it with a skill that many probably rarely use – or might not even have on their radar.
In a video on YouTube, the user “Causal Loop” presents a summary of his run in Starfield. The special thing about it is: He completed the main story without firing a weapon himself. However, that was not the only rule he set for his run.

What were the rules for his run?On Reddit, Causal Loop posted on November 23 a contribution titled “I played Starfield only through melee attacks.” There, he explains the rules he set for himself.

The only way to deal damage to enemies is to hit them with the weapon.
Pistols, rifles, heavy weapons are allowed as long as the weapon is used like a bat instead of pulling the trigger.
Environmental damage such as exploding barrels is allowed.
Normal ship combat is allowed.

He tried to take companions as rarely as possible, but some missions require it.

Regarding the difficulty level, he writes in the post:
Easy and very easy would have made the challenge ridiculous, while hard and very hard didn’t really make it harder. It just increased the number of times I had to hit enemies and the amount of medi-packs I had to use.
Since money is incredibly easy to get, the extra use of medi-packs wasn’t really a big issue.
Moreover, playing on a higher difficulty leads to more legendary items, so I thought normal would be more balanced to play.
As background, he chose “Bounty Hunter”. So he already had points in piloting, targeting systems, and boost pack training at the start of his space adventure in Starfield. Another user writes that the video makes him want to buy Starfield. Every game wants to be “Soulslike”, meaning super hard, but he has neither time nor patience for that.

What kind of spell is it? Wort der Macht: Tod (Engl.: Power Word Kill) is one of the most iconic spells from the Dungeons and Dragons universe. This special 9th-level spell forces any creature with 100 hit points or less to die immediately. The peculiarity or rather the catch is that you can only use the spell once per campaign. Presumably, the spell would simply be too powerful in Baldur’s Gate 3 if you could use it per long or short rest.
You can even use this spell against the final boss as soon as they drop to 100 hit points or less.
How to obtain the spell: To do this, you must kill Orin with your Dark Urge in Act 3 and switch to the evil side. After you defeat Orin in the Temple of Bhaal, you will first be presented with a dark scene.
In this scene, you will be faced with a choice:
Will you change your path or completely devote yourself to the service of Bhaal?
If you choose to serve Bhaal, your Dark Urge will be rewarded with the powerful spell Wort der Macht: Tod . The outcome of your decision not only ensures that you receive the spell but also affects your story.
It is even cooler that you can obtain a 9th-level spell that would normally only be available at level 17. Even if it can only be used once and only when the opponent has 100 hit points or fewer.
The fact that this powerful spell can only be used once per campaign emphasizes its exclusivity and requires careful consideration of when it should be used most effectively.
Perhaps you harbor a special grudge against an NPC – here the spell could prove to be the perfect answer.
The Rebel Alliance plays an important role in Star Wars. A conversation in Episode 3 revolves around the origin of this alliance. However, the scene was deleted.

Why was the scene deleted?According to Screenrant, George Lucas expressed in a bonus feature on the home media version of Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith that the deletion of the scene was a result of a decision to focus the film more on Anakin and his fall.
