The Christmas event for Overwatch is basically confirmed. There is even a release date!
Among the regular content updates that are planned for Overwatch are not only new heroes and maps, but also seasonal events. In the past, Blizzard has already hosted the “Summer Games” and a Halloween event. Both events featured a special game mode as well as numerous new cosmetics in the form of skins, emotes, voicelines, and all the other trinkets that players can pull from loot boxes.
For Christmas, fans seem to be facing a similar fate, as the developers have now announced on Twitter that people are “invited” and linked the message with a small animation.
The image shows that, similar to Hollywood at Halloween, there will be a modified version of existing maps. In this case, King’s Row will likely be affected by a winter snow shower and wrapped in a white dress. It makes it much more pleasant to deliver a warming EMP bomb to the Omnics on the payload, doesn’t it?
Previously, data miners had gathered the first hints of a Christmas event from the game data, such as some new voicelines and a festive variation of the soundtrack.
What exactly will come with the event is something Blizzard will probably hold back until the patch is released. Fans should mark December 13 – that is next Tuesday – because that is when the event is supposed to go live. However, for us, this might (as usual) only happen on December 14.
The patch is also expected to bring the new map Oasis as well as the highly anticipated changes for Symmetra, who can then act much more offensively than before.
Interestingly, players on Reddit are calling for a kill cam for cars – cool or macabre?
