In the store of PlayStation, there is a whole bunch of games. With over 1,000, a quick process has now been made. The striking fact is: They all belong to one publisher and one type of game.
What games have been banned from the store? As user RobThanatos shares on x.com, all 1,194 games of the publisher ThiGames have been deleted from the PlayStation Store. Thus, the publisher was not only in 4th place among those with the most games in the store, but primarily distributed a very specific type of games: so-called shovelware.
These are games that are particularly exciting for trophy hunters and require little effort. Whether Sony or the publisher themselves removed the games is currently unclear. However, it seems likely that this could be a clearance operation on Sony’s part.
A lot of the same with little effort for developers and trophy hunters
What is the problem with shovelware? Shovelware refers to software or video games that are mass-produced with minimal effort and budget in order to achieve quick profits. Often, the games are merely slightly altered duplicates of the same game system. Shovelware primarily does one thing: fills the store with numerous very similar games.
Many of these games utilize misleading advertising or entice players with extremely easily unlockable trophies, which devalues the success system of the platforms. For instance, in the case of the games from ThiGames, you could achieve the Platinum trophy in the game “The Jumping Spaghetti” in under 10 minutes and had to pay around €1.74 for it.
An example of how simple this is in these games and what type of games they usually are can be seen here:
One of the biggest problems that these games cause is the displacement of legitimate indie games, which sink in the sheer mass of cheap products and are hardly found by players anymore.
Providers like Nintendo or Sony have been rigorously taking action against such titles for a while now, which makes it likely that Sony also intervened in this case and removed the games (see Notebookcheck.com). However, this has not been confirmed yet.
The PlayStation is also fighting on another front, an expert claims. Because the cooling is said to be problematic, and in his opinion, it could affect almost every player. His accusation: Sony secretly upgraded to circumvent the problem: An expert claims: The PS5 has a major problem with its cooling and it could affect almost every player.
