With Last Oasis, a new survival MMO started in early access on Steam at the end of March. It impressed with a peak of up to 33,000 concurrent players. But how is the game doing a month after release? And what have the latest updates changed?
How does Last Oasis perform on Steam? In the last 24 hours, there was a peak of 12,624 concurrent players in the survival MMO. This is the weakest value for Last Oasis so far, as it reached over 16,500 players on the first weekend of May.
Compared to the release, the numbers have dropped significantly, but they have remained stable, especially in the last 14 days. For a brand new game that was also released in early access, Last Oasis is doing very well, especially considering there were some technical difficulties at launch.

Success despite technical issues and criticism of PvP?
How did the release of Last Oasis go? The survival MMO launched with some technical difficulties. They were so significant that the servers were taken offline for several days. The developers even offered refunds to players.
However, a “second release” took place, which brought significantly more players on the servers. The peak of 33,104 concurrent players also came from this second release.
But not only technical issues raised criticism of the game. Some were also dissatisfied with the direction of the game.
What criticism has the game received? Last Oasis focuses on PvP, where large clans fight for dominance in the oases, while smaller groups and solo players are supposed to raid caravans or defeat bosses.
But in reality, it was different. Many griefers ensured that new players were beaten up right from the start. Furthermore, many large clans do not care about newcomers or the oases, but instead attack players. They were supposed to protect these players more, as the clan benefits from the actions of other players in the oasis.
MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus would have preferred that Last Oasis had been released without the strong PvP focus. However, the player numbers currently indicate that Last Oasis appeals to at least a certain segment of players.
New updates bring content, but do they solve problems?
What has happened since the release? On April 7, the first major update for Last Oasis was released. This introduced a new type of oases, which already brought new technology tiers and new walkers, a special feature of the MMO.
Following this update were several smaller patches with bug fixes as well as an initial wave of bans that reportedly caught some cheaters.
On May 1, the largest update so far was released, which included the following new features:
- A new mollusk walker
- New and revised tutorial quests
- Adjustments to sound, interface, and graphics
- Various balance changes to craftable structures
- A huge pile of bug fixes
So far, nothing has changed regarding the zerging and ganking problem. However, the developers are currently working on a solution, as they revealed in the patch presentation.
How do the developers want to solve the PvP problem? In the first step, the oases will be designed for different clan sizes. This way, smaller groups should be able to find oases that feel safe for them more easily.
Based on the feedback, further adjustments will then be made. Whether that will really be enough to solve the problem remains to be seen.
The sentiment in the Steam reviews is divided
What do the latest reviews on Steam say? On Steam, the rating for Last Oasis has been balanced in the last 30 days with 66% positive reviews.
This number refers not only to the release but has roughly continued since then. From April 16 to May 5, 1,878 positive and 618 negative reviews were submitted, which corresponds to 69% positive ratings.
What is being praised? Especially the walkers, which are a unique feature, are highlighted by many players as a highlight. Praise is also given for:
- The various technologies in the game
- The unique setting and the idea with the oases
- The fact that by logging out of Last Oasis, the walker and thus the base is also safe. In many other survival titles, you can be raided while offline.
However, one should not venture out alone in the game, but rather as a group, which is also emphasized by many positive comments.
What is criticized? Criticism is mainly directed at the ganking problems. It is often reported that Steam users were killed by another player and that this player was waiting for them again after respawning.
Moreover, the fact that many large clans act more aggressively against new players instead of supporting them is perceived negatively by many.
There were also occasional negative reviews for technical issues, which are not unusual during early access.
Who is Last Oasis worth it for? Anyone looking for a survival MMO with a unique setting and who enjoys playing with other players in large groups could have a lot of fun with Last Oasis.
However, as with many survival games, you should have a certain level of frustration tolerance and also not be too attached to your collected items. Because you can lose these at any time in the game.
