This week had some changes for New World. A patch caused game crashes. Two skills were caught as the culprits. Additionally, there are supposed to be some changes in the classes. Aside from that, there is new information about Throne and Liberty and a possible Horizon MMORPG.
The highlights of the week:
- Sony and NCSoft have formed a strategic partnership. This fuels rumors about an MMORPG in the Horizon universe that could arise from this collaboration. Furthermore, the mobile sector is expected to play a significant role.
- WoW Classic has entered a new season. The Season of Discoveries is so popular that the servers were overcrowded at launch. The season brings fresh Classic servers with some innovations.
- Wayfinder did not exactly shine at the Early Access launch. The game now has to cope with a 99% decline in active players. Nevertheless, the development team is working on a patch that will bring over 2,000 changes.
What else has happened? New World has temporarily disabled two abilities as they were the cause of game crashes. After a patch, the two abilities of the rapier and the musket suddenly caused issues (via twitter.com).
Furthermore, the Creative Director of New World answered fan questions about the balancing of the MMORPGs. Especially the healer class received overly eager buffs that are now under closer observation (via youtube.com).

What happened with the major MMORPGs:
- WoW will get a new capital for the night elves with its next patch. The new residence is named Bel’ameth and is currently under construction.
- Things are also happening in WoW Classic: The MMORPG is getting a new honor system after almost 20 years. Blizzard is removing the decay system, meaning the automatic decay of honor ranks. This way, you can temporarily stay away from PvP activities without losing ranks.
- Guild Wars 2 has started a beta for expanded weapon proficiency. In the beta, all 9 classes will gain access to at least one new weapon and fresh abilities. The beta will run until December 4, 2023, at 7 AM (via GW2).
- Lost Ark will get the new area Voldis in an upcoming update. On the occasion of the patch releasing in December, the development team released a video explaining the lore behind the region (via YouTube).
What happened with the minor MMORPGs:
- The Realm Online had to shut down 27 years after its launch. In June 2023, the servers were taken offline. However, on November 24, 2023, the servers reopened under new management.
- Mortal Online 2 has received a graphics upgrade. The hardcore MMORPG not only gets a look with Unreal Engine 5, but also some gameplay adjustments. Players can look forward to more camps at important locations and a fighting arena in Meduli.
- Blade & Soul is also set to receive enhanced graphics. NCSoft introduced the Neo-Classic servers, which offer graphically improved areas and aim to bring back the old glory of the game.
- Aion Classic is preparing for Update 2.5. The patch is set to bring 5 new dungeons to the game, including a dungeon as a high-level solo instance. The update is expected to be released in 2023 (via Massively OP).
What happened with MMORPGs in development:
- BitCraft, an MMORPG in the style of Zelda, has noticed in a playtest that testers preferred to focus on housing alone rather than building an entire city in larger groups. Therefore, the development team at Clockwork Labs announced it wants to implement private housing.
- Throne and Liberty talks about its in-game shop. The title will only offer 15% of skins and pets for real money. However, this percentage only applies to the release. The items are supposed to be purely cosmetic.
- Tarisland has provided a closer look at its Paladin class. These are elves who can heal their own wounds with magic while also dealing decent damage. The Paladin can choose between two specializations: Justice or Guard (via Tarisland).
