The days of Amazon Games as a major player in MMORPGs are over. The end for New World is already decided. But the remaining developers are sending out one more update.
Is New World still alive? Yes and No. The end of New World is dated for January 31, 2027. Until then, only those who purchased the MMORPG on Steam before the shutdown announcement can play.
If we look at the player numbers on SteamDB, it shows a grim picture. At peak times, less than 1,000 of the once over 900,000 players are playing across all servers.
While rumors suggest that acquisition talks are taking place with the developers of Rust, the remaining players are now being gifted one more update.
Here you can see the trailer for the last season of New World:
An update for the rest
What's in the update? The developers are changing how mutations work. They will be altered with the new version to simplify the life of the remaining players and revive the PvE market.
Starting with the update, you won't have to wait an entire week for a change in the mutations of the dungeons anymore. They are now supposed to change daily, providing more variety.
For even more PvE, there's a change to the expedition limit. With the new patch, each player can participate in a raid 100 times per week. However, the restrictions in the MMORPG are even further reduced.
What else was changed? A bug was fixed that sent players directly to the main menu when they returned from an instance or dungeon. Additionally, the AFK timer was fixed.
Moreover, the developers have reduced the cooldown for the Soul Trail to 6 hours.
The developers of New World seem to be updating the MMORPG until the end with concessions for the few remaining players. Perhaps there will really be an acquisition by the makers of Rust; then some of the changes could even last longer.
