Boluses (in English Boluses) are among the usable items on your expeditions in Nightreign. Yet many players ignore them, even though they are very powerful.
Why do players ignore the important items? Players already know Boluses as a usable item from the main game of Elden Ring. There, they provide temporary bonuses that primarily heal or prevent negative status effects (like poison, bleeding, or madness). They are found, bought, or crafted, and used to counter harmful influences.
Because the effect in Elden Ring only lasts for a short time, they are often ignored in Nightreign, as other items seem significantly more useful. However, they are among the most powerful usable items in the game and can even determine victory or defeat in crucial moments.
“Yup. Time to eat off the ground.”
What makes the Boluses so powerful? Unlike in Elden Ring, the Boluses in Nightreign provide permanent buffs in the form of resistances for your run, which you can see under your buffs. The catch: It is not explicitly stated in the item descriptions, which is why many players don’t know, as a thread on Reddit currently shows:
- itstheFREEDOM writes: “I feel dumb for ignoring them … wow …”
- Pharabellum notes: “I started using them yesterday and became much sturdier as Iron Eyes, a solid strategy.”
- arsenicknife comments: “I love how everyone approaches the items with the fundamental mentality of Elden Ring, of which 99% are junk, and then realizes that almost every one of them is incredible in Nightreign. Really a wonderful comeback story for the items.”
- bedtimers continues to advise: “This is groundbreaking. Never carry Boluses around, just use them from the ground (Triangle and up on the D-Pad on the PS) and you will gain the resistance for the run.”
- LinkCelestrial replies: “Yup. Time to eat off the ground.”
And thus, user bedtimers points out a fact that makes the Boluses even more powerful.

Because you can simply pick up the Boluses and consume them directly to gain a boost for the respective status resistance. This way, they take up no space in your inventory, and you can benefit from the long-term effect of the items. As a small bonus, they also provide temporary HP regeneration.
If you let some time pass between them, it is also possible to further increase the resistance with additional Boluses. By paying attention to the type of damage the Night Lord prefers to deal, you can secure a significant advantage for the final battle.
