Finally, Capcom has shown a first trailer for the major expansion of Monster Hunter Wilds and not only do we see a fearsome monster, but the new area especially excites MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes already.
What was seen in the first trailer for the expansion? At the Summer Game Fest 2026, Capcom gave a first look at the major expansion of Monster Hunter Wilds. It is called Ascendance, and we can already see new monsters that we will have to face.
We also get to see the new area, which excites MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes, as the movement could finally reach its full potential.

An area for a modern Monster Hunter
In the first trailer for the expansion, we see an area in the air made up of many floating rocks and platforms. With the Seikret, one maneuvers through there, and we can already see the first battles against familiar and new monsters.
Especially the new area excites me directly, as such a map structure could allow for more interaction with the environment. I miss that a bit in the main game, as with the Seikret and the faster movement, we actually have the perfect building block for more interesting possibilities to combat monsters.
One of these monsters is, by the way, Lao Shang Lung. This is a rather large monster that appeared in the first part of Monster Hunter (2004).
In the current maps of the game, that is missing, as you often find yourself in larger arenas. The new area has the potential to not only allow for more cinematic moments but also more tactical gameplay in combat against monsters.
It shouldn’t be as elaborate as in Monster Hunter Rise (even though I liked that very much), but the gameplay of Wilds definitely has room for improvement.
