Why are fans so worried? The studio behind Last Epoch, Eleventh Hour Games, announced on Friday that it has been acquired by publisher Krafton for 96 million USD (approximately 82 million euros, as of July 28, 1:15 PM) (via Games.ch).
This is a significant blow for many fans. The studio was largely shaped by funding from genre fans through Kickstarter, who now fear that the passion may be lost due to the acquisition.
The publisher Krafton has recently come under scrutiny as well. The developers of Subnautica 2 sued their own publisher because, according to media reports, it replaced the management and deliberately postponed the release of the game. The reason for this, according to Bloomberg, was a bonus for the timely completion of the game that Krafton did not want to pay to the developers.
