Many of you probably know Detective Conan from the RTL2 anime program. For over 30 years, Conan has been trying to catch the men in black. However, this mammoth task doesn’t stop him from helping out in other animes.
In January 1994, the first chapter of Detective Conan by Gosho Aoyama was published in the Japanese magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday. Since then, the titular detective, whose real name is Shin’ichi Kudō, has faced countless cases while also trying to catch the men in black. They poisoned him and shrank him down, after all.
Most of you probably know Conan more from the anime, which has been running since 1996 and now consists of over 1200 episodes and 29 films. Despite his busy schedule, the little detective has found time to help his colleagues in another anime – you might also know part of the series from RTL2.
Conan with the Magical Girls
Where did Detective Conan appear now? Currently, Metantei Pretty Cure! (Star Detective Pretty Cure!) is running in the anime season. In the anime, the 14-year-old Akechi Anna from the year 2027 suddenly lands in the year 1999. There, she teams up with Kobayashi Mikuru to form a detective agency. As is common in the series, in addition to the cases, there are battles where the protagonists use their magical girl powers.
In episode 18 (May 31, 2026) of the new anime, there is a crossover with the probably most famous anime detective: Conan stops by with Ran and Kogoro and helps the two solve their current case. Fittingly for the series, the three also have a different art style.
But there will also be visits in the opposite direction. According to Crunchyroll, the protagonists of Star Detective Pretty Cure! are supposed to find themselves lost in the world of Conan. Also in the episode, the two magical girls adapt to the art style of Detective Conan.
What is the Pretty Cure series? The series started in 2004 with the anime Pretty Cure. This is also the anime that you might know from RTL2, as the series aired on the channel from September 2005 (source: fernsehserien.de). In the meantime, there are 23 series in the franchise, though not all of them are directly related.
