The world of Warhammer offers several versions of the Chaos gods in its various forms, even though Chaos itself remains the same cosmic power. MeinMMO explains which gods exist and what happens when you worship them.
Chaos is the cosmic counterforce to order and is inseparably linked to the Warp. The Warp is, simply explained, the realm of emotions and souls, shaped by all psychically active beings.
Accordingly, all feelings of humans, elves, and other inherently psychic beings have the potential to influence the Warp. If an emotion becomes powerful enough, it forms into an entity in the Warp: a Chaos god is born.
In the history of Warhammer, this has happened frequently, but only four or five of these gods are considered major Chaos gods who fight for dominance in the “Great Game”.
The Chaos gods can grant great power to their worshippers – but at a high price. If you devote yourself to a Chaos god, he will consume your soul after your death. There is no way out. For many people in the world of Warhammer, the deal is still worth it.
Nurgle, the Plague Lord
The possibly most well-known and most disgusting Chaos god is Father Nurgle, the god of pestilence and disease. Nurgle has created every disease and parasite that has ever afflicted humanity.
For him, however, these are “gifts” that he generously distributes, and he sees them as a way to let “unchecked life” run free. Nurgle is – in a twisted way – the god of death and rebirth.
Accordingly, Nurgle is the only Chaos god that actually “cares” for his followers, albeit in a questionable way. If you decide to serve Nurgle, he will gladly gift you with all kinds of diseases.
Your flesh will rot, and depending on the disease, your tongue may swell, your body may bloat, or your skin may be covered with festering sores. Everything is, of course, highly contagious. Mutations and transformations into twisted beasts are also not uncommon. However, you will be incredibly hard to kill – for you already carry death within you. Your arch-nemesis is Tzeentch.
